Food (including vegan options) and service were excellent with very attentive staff who took trouble to recognise our event.We had a window table so the view was stunning.The live music didn't suit an afternoon tea both in terms of choice of songs and the loud volume of the singer.

Overall it was a good experience but there were some things lacking. When I booked my table I asked for a window table but when we arrived there were none available, so we had to sit away from the view which was a disappointment. The food and drink were lovely. The service was ok but not of a five star level. The waiter forgot to bring the bottled water over we ordered so I had to remind another member of staff. Also there is a jug of hot water to pour on the tray of the chocolate shard to create smoke. Our waiter didn’t pour this so we did it ourselves but was cold by then. I asked staff about it and they replaced it for us and said the waiter is meant to do it. The table next to us was set to be used but had rings all over it so hadn’t been cleaned properly. We did enjoy our afternoon tea but it wasn’t the level that I have experienced in other five star venues.

Beautiful very lovely setting , comfortable seats and the service was second to none , loved it will be back

This was not worth the value. For 79 pounds per person, it was a lot to pay for a few sandwiches, scone and tea. The sandwiches were pretty standard, no better than I could make at home. However, the and food were excellent.

The whole experience of afternoon tea at The Shard was amazing. All the staff made my birthday experience extra special, which I will never forget. Alex in particular was very kind and considerate..

Lovely setting, acknowledged our special celebration on arrival, presentation was beautiful but food itself mediocre. Service utterly delightful when offered, however getting drink refills was a challenge. We didn’t need any food replenishing as there was enough - I expected to pay the advertised price of £160 but total bill was closer to £200 I have had far nicer food for a lot less but this was a novelty experience for a special occasion so it did the trick, I just wouldn’t necessarily do it again.

This is based on my experience of having had numerous afternoon teas in 5-star hotels across London. We were a group of 6, with family from the USA. We were greeted with great customer service, which continued throughout our experience. Overall, the food was mediocre, the sandwiches were good, the beef and truffle and coronation chicken were very enjoyable, and the other savoury options were nothing special, especially the beetroot heart was not nice. The scones were ok, nothing special, blackcurrant jam flavour not my preferred choice, would have expected raspberry or strawberry. The pastries were very disappointing, the carrot cake was the only one I liked. The rest were just for show they all had the same texture, and the individual flavours were non-existent. The Shard cake was a non-event, not very imaginative with the dry ice... it's been done! It was an expensive experience for what you got from the quality of food. The view was probably the main advantage of the experience. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it and would not do it again. It's such a shame as the dinner menus across the Shard restaurants are very good. Disappointing this didn't match!

The afternoon tea did not meet expectations and was overpriced for what was offered. The restaurant looked tired and showed sign of wear and tear; service was inattentive, unrefined and slow; and the food mediocre (bread was dry, most cakes were of the rubbery cream variety, and there was even a cheap brioche bun filled with mashed peas [!]), and the atmosphere was busy. It felt like the whole operation was a tourist trap.
