The historic country house setting of Headlam Hall in the beautiful rolling countryside of lower Teesdale makes it the perfect spot for enjoying the Great British tradition of afternoon tea Our afternoon tea is served in the traditional manner and includes a selection of dainty sandwiches, pastries and teas. We can also offer variations to suit dietary requirements on request. Please note that all afternoon teas must be booked in advance. We can not accommodate walk-ins on the day.

Comfortable and cosy country house hotel elegance. Bit disappointed in sandwich offering (fillings were ungenerous and unexplained at the start). Scones were fantastic and lots of cream but first jam serving was again ungenerous. Posset was cloyingly sweet and the cream/fresh fruit tarts were too large - it's meant to be dainty stuff, right? and the pastry was both hard and too thick. Tea replenished only after we got up to request it. Had to ask for sugar bowl. Overall a disappointing experience.

Good venue, lovely food but staff were not attentive. Food was placed on our table then no further interaction from staff

The afternoon tea was good value, good selection of food, scones were delicious. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely be going again

The food and service were very good. The room was warm and cosy and very nicely decorated for Christmas. Our only gripe would be that we were charged a compulsory 10% gratuity per person. We weren’t given the option as to whether we paid this or not. We were prepared to leave a tip as the service was very good but we thought what we were charged was a bit steep. It wouldn’t stop us going again though.

The Afternoon teas comprised a range of tasty morsels and ample hot beverages. We had a lovely afternoon. Some of the gluten free tea items, unfortunately, were rather dry ie the fruit scone and the brownie, so a little below the very high standard I have come to expect from Headlam Hall.
