The food was OK. We got the spinach dip and it was very runny and had very little spinach in it. I was also surprised how bland it was. For our mains, my partner got a pulled pork sandwich but needed to request a gluten-free bun. It was $3 extra for the bun (which is pretty outrageous to begin with) but that would have been OK if the bun had not been one of those styrofoam GF buns. There are so many good GF buns out there and if you're already charging $3 per for them, I would think you can afford better buns. I got the Peppercorn sirloin and upgraded to the garlic mashed potatoes. Again, not too happy about the fact that I needed to pay extra for a side that is pretty common with a steak, but it was what I really wanted. The steak was cooked just as I had requested (between Medium and MR) so no issues there. But it was a bit gristly and that was not pleasant. Otherwise, an OK steak. But the garilc mashed potatoes were incredibly bland and I was really shocked, considering that I paid an additional $2.50 to get them. As well, they were so whipped and devoid of any cream, I almost felt like they were from a box, but I can't imagine that was the case. They just did not have the consistency of mashed potatoes. Finally, we were very disappointed in the service. Our server was very pleasant and sweet but not particularly attentive. It was not a very busy night in there so this was quite surprising. I had to ask for things a couple of time (e.g. a glass for my beverage), and when each course was brought to us, it took a while for our server to come and see if we needed anything else. We ended up getting more from our food runner than our primary server. At one point, my partner had to get up to ask for BBQ sauce and our server was just sitting on her phone so he to ask someone else to help him. So not a horrible experience, but sadly I don't think I would go back here.

Disappointed! Order two apps. Cauliflower bites was okay, Spinach dip was absolutely horrible! It was just melted cheese for $17.00! 3 meals ordered I had the Buffalo wrap. Chicken extremely dry other two meals were hamburgers and they said they were not bad but not great either! A $170.00 dinner plus tip and I would not go back or recommend it!

If you are going for drinks, you should be okay. Stay away from the food. The food options lack quality, variety and value.

Better than when visited in the past. Food was good, but comparable to other places, nothing over exceptional, and service was good and attentive. Nice country atmosphere

Loved the ambience of this place! The cowboy feel was so much fun and the pricing felt really fair on the menu. Our server Brie was also lovely. The only thing we were dissapointed by were the burgers. They were a bit dry and not too flavourful.

The Western is located in the heart of downtown Guelph, where there are a wide array of dining establishments that cater to the pub grub crowd to the haute cuisine gourmands. If you seek good value and a decent dining experience, that's somewhere in the middle ——look no further. JG

Good value for money spent. Compared to many other restaurants, including the Keg, the Western is my first choice. Keep up the great work.

1881 is an authentic rustic feeling restaurant with a nice decor, which we noticed upon entering and even while sitting at our table. Serve was excellent! We were greeted immediately upon entry, seated promptly with menus and drinks offered right away. Drinks were served quickly and our orders taken. The server continually checked on us throughout our meal and even after as we relaxed and enjoyed a couple bottles of wine. We ordered two different steaks and a burger. All was excellent and worthy of a steak house. Steaks were cooked to perfection and were well enjoyed. Burger was large, well dressed, and tasted great! We will be back for sure!
