Lake Elmo Inn is opening a new restaurant at Union Depot in Saint Paul. Owners Chef John and Christine Schiltz and our team will launch 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn on Thursday, August 8th. The name “1881” pays homage to the year both the original Union Depot and Lake Elmo Inn opened, reflecting the deep historical connection the restaurant hopes to foster.

Offering a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn will merge the charm of a storied past with a modern culinary flair, becoming a destination for both locals and visitors.

All 4 adults had different meals. We all thought meals very good. Chicken pasta / salmon/sunnies / walleye. Our server was excellent. It was nice to be at restaurant that noise level wasn’t a problem - were able to visit. Lots of construction in area so allow extra arrival time. Would recommend

1881 by the Lake Elmo Inn is a great restaurant in the unique location of the St Paul Union Station. Service by Corrine was fantastic and over the top. The food was excellent and of the same quality we have had at the Lake Elmo Inn in Lake Elmo. The sirloin was melt in my mouth delicious and cooked to perfection. The duck risotto was very savory. Both were generous portions especially after the fresh and tasty Caesar and Mandarin Orange salads respectively. The Key Lime pie is among the best we have had. The wine list is small but comprehensive . We will be back.

This was our first time dining at 1881. Parking was easy and covered and secure. The Depot setting is unique and has a very cool retro vibe. The decor of the restaurant is warm and elegant without being stuffy. We had a fantastic server (thank you Corrie) to guide us. Corrie was both professional and engaging. Her recommendations were thoughtful and informative. We shared crab cakes that were worth the trip alone. We also shared a cup of very good chicken wild rice soup before moving to the mains. The Cajun pork chop was perfectly seasoned and easily the best pork chop I have had in years. The walleye was good. Portion sizes were generous and prices were fair. Cocktail and wine lists were complete and drinks well prepared. Try the Manhattan and the Old Fashion. We really enjoyed 1881.

Poor selection of wines and spirits as they are just getting set up. Overall nice place Nightmarish parking

Great venue in the old Union Depot. Service was excellent. Our waitress April was amazing. Food was really good. We had a great experience. Will definitely return.

Lovely night at 1881 celebrating our anniversary! We started at the bar and Bartender Chris was welcoming, attentive and expertly answered our questions. Great mocktails too! Our service was wonderful at the Bar and Table. The entire staff worked seamlessly as a team, providing a great experience. Menu selections were ample and salads, entrees and deserts were delicious. We highly recommend 1881, and love having a fine restaurant back in Union Depot!

Great restaurant at Union Depot. Started with an old fashion - and it was excellent. Had the Sunnies for diner - I haven't had sunnies in years - and they were just as I remember. Lightly breaded and fried - there were enough on the plate for 2 people. Waitress was friendly / engaging / and knowledgeable.

This is my 2nd time dining at 1881. Again, the food, the service, the drinks! couldn’t have been better. Ask for Cory, her service was impeccable! 1881 is what dining out should look like. Spoiled!!!

The center of pork chop was raw, walleye was very 'fishy in spite of being breaded with seasonings, food was piled to overflowing, chef came to visit guest wearing a soiled jacket.
