Stacey our server was just fabulous. Her suggestions on wine to pair with dinner were spot on. I had the duck which was the best duck I have ever tasted. Perfectly cooked and delicious. My partner had the petite filet and said it was wonderful. We will be back!

I had a great dinner at the 2nd floor bar. The bartenders were attentive and fun. The food was very good. The lobster bisque was very good and its presentation was unique. I also enjoyed the seared duck breast, I recommend it

Delicious food, great old building and fantastic service all around. Even the chairs were comfortable.

Ordered the duck med rare as the waitress said is what the chef recommended. It was actually very rare. The shrimp appetizer was outstanding . The drink was wonderful. Didn’t see where the mushrooms were sautéed in a sauce on the menu, but I certainly could have missed that. Mashed potatoes were very good. Lobster was exactly as waitress described. A bit on the sweet side. Important to give feedback. We done at many wonderful restaurants. But I was a bit disappointed in the duck and mushrooms. Beautiful atmosphere . Wonderful staff.

Friday evening dinner reservation at 5:45pm so went to upstairs bar before dinner. Loved the ambiance and staff was very friendly . We were seated promptly at 5:45 on main floor for dinner and again loved the ambiance. And wait staff was very attentive. . Ordered a bottle of wine which was brought out promptly. Hubby ordered rack of lamb, medium rare, and I ordered beef filet, medium rare. Again no lapse of service. Hubby’s rack of lamb was cooked exactly as ordered and was delicious, however my filet was overcooked to the point of being well done. Server offered to bring another one but I declined as did not want hubbys dinner to get cold while I was waiting for mine. Sides of asparagus and Parmesan potatoes were excellent. Overall more positives than the one negative so yes we would go back. It’s great to have yet another excellent upscale restaurant in Midlothian!

If I were to go again I would not eat on the second floor on a Saturday night. No reasonable crowd control around a reserved table. I understand it is a bar area. But letting a group of 12+ swarm around a table of 2 trying to eat is not acceptable for a $175 meal. I’m pretty sure we were charged for a $12 glass of wine I never got and didn’t get a chance to ask about because we were so rushed to leave. Waitstaff could barely navigate the room. It’s too bad. Beautiful building rich with history. It will probably be really pretty over the holidays. The food was really good but the overall experience left us aggravated and disappointed.

It was our first time at 1870 Restaurant. From the food and waitstaff to the wonderful ambiance, it was a great evening with delicious food. We will definitely return.
