Bringing Chef James Cochran to Islington’s ever-evolving food scene with his restaurant 12:51. Having won the popular BBC TV programme ‘Great British Menu’, the talented chef will be bringing some of his dishes from the show to the tables of 12:51.
Situated right in the heart of the bustling Upper Street, 12:51 seats 38. The venue welcomes guests serving a 5-course taster menu only for lunch and dinner - £49pp. On Sunday is our famous 12:51 Sunday roast menu only!
The venue has a minimal, studio-like interior, dotted with quirky features from the original Victorian building. The double-height windows on the ground floor allow natural daylight to flood in and will be a space for changing contemporary artwork from artists from the local community and friends of the 12:51 team. 12:51 has a curated playlist of classic funk, soul, hip hop and rock & roll tunes to take diners from day tonight. Just to be aware that we don't cater for vegans or dairy-free. Booking could be on a high table.

Everything from start to end was excellent. Service cannot be faulted. And the wine pairing with all the food was also executed so well. Big big fan of the fried chicken, goats cheese pudding thing, ragu and the cheese finisher at the end. Cannot wait to go back!

I went with my wife and my parents, we had the 5 course dinner. The starter was nice (soda bread with marmite butter), and the first 2 dishes were pretty decent, especially the vegetarian dish with kohlraby. The third dish was barely edible, they poured a super salty courgette sauce on it that made it very unpleasant. The fourth one was even worse: a buckwheat risotto full of dodgy sauce. The dessert was nice, it was some kind of strawberry ice cream. The place looks much better in the photos, the room where we had dinner looked like a generic cafeteria and the tables were small and cramped up. The waitresses on the other hand were all very kind and helpful. Overall I must say I am a bit disappointed. I suppose the dishes are very "instagrammable" so good choice if you are an influencer perhaps?

My main reason for the low review is the service. Everyone was lovely but everything felt very uncoordinated. We ordered our food and drinks at the same time, 30 minutes later we still did not have our drinks and asked where they were. A part of our food then arrived and we were told someone would come and explain what was there but no one did. Still no drinks at this point so we asked again for them. The main roast then came with the drinks following after but we had to flag someone down again to talk us through what the various different plates were as no one had done this as promised. We were then told we have to leave about an hour and 10 minutes into our meal which all felt very rushed and we had not finished our first drink due to the lateness. The food was amazing and it’s a shame as if the service wasn’t awful it’s somewhere I would regularly visit.

A very tasty journey through a very filling 8 course tasting menu to celebrate my brothers 40th birthday. The food was fantastic, varied and everything cooked so well. Didn't think I got great value from the drinks pairing.

The portion is ok but definitely large for me. They have cauliflower in cheese, and if you dislike cheese that may be too heavy. The potatoes are crispy on the surface and solid in the middle (with some texture and potato flavor).

Food overall good with some very good surprises (the mackerel or the courgette soup were amazing!!). However, the conception of the menu could be improved (finishing a 8 course meal by a cheese pudding is not very smart…), the dessert was good but too sweet and the menu was missing a piece of fish or meat in the middle. If we overall liked the food, we have been disappointed by the room… there were flies everywhere and the decoration was if not absent, tasteless.
