Throughout the space of Public, a modernist sensibility is blended with a classic American, Newport mansion drawing room theme. It's design is inspired by the existing architecture of the Masonic Temple and it's Rhode Island Capital Statehouse neighbor. Public's masculine and warm setting will be a meeting place for hipsters and Senators alike.
Please keep in mind that we are next to a theatre and it greatly affects reservations and seating times.

My meal tonight , the lobster roll special was great. My server August was exceptional as always. Christopher the manager is friendly and well organized. Another great meal at Public Kitchen and Bar

This is our 3rd time at Public, it is in the Ren hotel and very convenient for a hotel guests. The service and food are fine, the dining area shuts down early and the food is fair.

Nice place for dinner and apps before the show at the Vets. Food was good but menu could have had more entrees. No accommodations for handicapped assisted restrooms.

Wonderful service and ambience! Short ribs were tough and not much taste to shrimp scampi! Scallops were great! Cheddar mash potatoes fabulous! Fig pizza was good but arugula was wilted! Waitress was delightful as well as Maitre D as bd bartender

The short ribs were dry almost to the point of hard to eat. I was too tired to complain and just ate what I could. I was disappointed. My wife's dish was not supposed to be spicy, but had a couple of unexpected very spicy pieces. The waiter saw her distress and came to ask about it, but she found the rest of the dish to be satsifactory. There was no more than one other table in the restaurant at the same time as us - between 7 pm and 8 Pm. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Hostess was patient and friendly.Some of the food items were awesome and others definitely should just be taken off the menu. Skip the chicken tacos and the charcuterie. The charcuterie is something to be desired, though the cheese and the meat on it are delicious. There's not nearly enough crackers to eat in the pickles items on it don't really taste great. Try the eggplant chips, short ribs dinner, the wings , the dessert ,all great .I would definitely recommend . The drinks were delicious but light on the alcohol. I have read a ton of comments saying they are expensive and I did not feel that to be the case. Domestic beer is $5, mixed drinks I think $14 and wine $11 . Our waitress only smiled when we left. Felt like we were bothering her the whole time. Wish we had a different waitress maybe would've given it 5 stars because experience makes up for food.
