We are a family owned business located in the centre of York by the River Ouse. Our bar and bistro has gained a reputation for a wide range of beers and spirits coupled with an excellent selection of wines and champagnes. Close to The Grand Opera House and city centre, Plonkers is an ideal place to meet with friends or colleagues for a relaxed drink.
Weekends at Plonkers can have a party atmosphere where you can relax after work with friends. Upstairs seats approximately 26 but we can cater for buffets for around 40 people with some standing.
We now have our outside riverside area, where we serve food and drinks 10am – 9pm weather permitting.

Please note that although Open Table appears to let you book downstairs or upstairs, this is a glitch with open table, and whilst we will do our best to accommodate requests, no specific tables can be booked as its down to phasing on the day,

We enjoyed the Sunday roast which was a huge serving, friendly, attentive staff and the best espresso Martini 😋, all up it was a great experience 😀

Great little pub! Food was really good, large portions and plenty of choice on the menu. Would happily visit again when I’m next in York

This is my second visit. Had arranged to meet 3 other ladies for lunch and said if you would like to eat good quality, home cooked food, totally unpretentious then I could recommend Plonkers. I am so pleased we went. The venue was very quiet and it was good that we could support an individual venue rather than one of the chains. Great quality food, good value prices and great service. I can 100% recommend.

No table service or cutlery. Had to take the menu to the bar to order and ask for cutlery when the food arrived at the table. Nobody came to ask if the meals were ok or clear the table once we were finished. Had to go back to the bar to pay the tab. Food was good decent pub grub, generous potions and value for money.

We booked very last minute as another booking cancelled on us so we were grateful to get a table. Food was good pub type food, very nice and big portions! Toast with pate would have been nicer if it was not sliced white barely toasted. Bread with muscles could have been better too but otherwise food was great and really good value. Shame one of the waiting staff seemed to have a real attitude. Slamming drinks down, looking annoyed when we asked for cutlery and generally making us feel we were unwelcome and an annoyance. The rest of the staff seemed lovely.
