General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. The feast was perfect in every way. There are not enough epithets to describe the impeccable, beautifully presented and delicious food, good range of excellent wines, courteous, attentive and knowledgeable service, and splendid decor. Between four of us, we tried many dishes and all were delicious, creative and cooked to perfection. Le festin était plus que parfait. Nous ne trouvons pas les mots pour décrire nos repas impeccables, magnifiquement présentés et délicieux, une sélection de vins excellents, un service courtois, attentif et informé, et un décor splendide. Nous étions quatre et avons savouré plusieurs plats, tous délicieux, originaux et préparés à point.
