Ouvert en 1983 par le restaurateur Joe Allen du quartier des théâtres, Orso offre une cuisine italienne régionale dans un environnement confortable et intime. On peut y retrouver les visiteurs de l'extérieur, les habitants et les habitués de Broadway en train d'apprécier les plats classiques d'Orso, comme les rigatonis sauce bolognaise et le foie de veau sauté aux oignons grillés et à la sauge. The best restaurant in the Broadway show area, we live in the neighborhood and it is our favorite restaurant in the theatre district. Welcoming host, warm wait staff, a very versatile menu, love the pitchers of wine and flatbreads. May it live on forever!

I had not been there before and went with a friend after the theatre. It was a great setting, staff was knowledgeable and explained our wine options, etc.

Orso never disappoints!! The mushroom risotto with scallops was a highlight and the ambiance cannot be outdone.

Excellent meal. The artichoke soup was a great starter. The half chicken breast and sautéed spinach were both excellent. Service was prompt and efficient but not rushed. Truly a great experience.

It’s such a pleasure when a restaurant where we first dined about 40 years ago is still great. The food was delicious and our waiter provided not only excellent service but interesting conversation.

We’d never heard of Orso before making our late-evening reservation. We came at 9pm, after seeing Patti Lupone and Mia Farrow in The Roommate. So it’s possible that the noise level would be higher earlier in the evening, but when we were there it was very quiet. The food was first-rate—again a surprise to us. I had the broiled cauliflower starter, which was delicious and enough for a main course. One of our guests had the fettucine and proclaimed it excellent. My husband had the calves liver (infrequently seen these days) and enjoyed it. But the absolute star of the evening was the Sorrentino pizza, which my sisters shared. Fabulous thin crust, delicious cheeses topped with very fresh thinky sliced prosciutto. They shared two slices with me and my husband and there was still enough for both of them. We finished it all off with the “tartufo pizza,” covered with chocolate ganache, that was the best tartufo I’ve ever had anywhere. And enough for three of us to share. My sisters ordered the olive oil cake and loved it. Table service was excellent, and the Maitre d’ was very helpful, miving us to a slightly smaller table when one of our party had to cancel. It was a perfect size for five people; small enough that we could easily talk with each other. All in all, great value for the money (which was quite reasonable). We’re absolutely going to return next time we’re in the theater district.

Service is the best in New York. Main course scallops were perfect. Can’t ask for a better appetizer than prosciutto and melon. And they now have late-night specials
