Dining at Morimoto is nothing short of a transcendent experience, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese elegance with modern sophistication. This upscale restaurant offers a culinary journey that is both visually stunning and gastronomically exceptional. The evening began with a selection of exquisite drinks. One standout was the sake-based cocktail known as "Dreamy Clouds," which lived up to its name with its ethereal and smooth flavor profile. Another custom drink, reminiscent of sour apple candy, provided a delightful contrast with its tart and refreshing taste, showcasing the bartenders' creative flair and skill. The dining party indulged in the restaurant's famous wagyu dumplings, which were perfectly tender and bursting with rich, savory flavor. The rock shrimp, another appetizer, was equally impressive, offering a crispy exterior with a juicy, flavorful interior. The highlight of the evening was the Omakase, a 10-course tasting menu curated by the chef. Each course was a revelation, featuring an array of meticulously crafted dishes. From delicate bao buns and succulent scallops to the most tender cod imaginable, every bite was a testament to the chef's artistry and dedication to quality. The wagyu steak, in particular, was a standout, melting in the mouth with an unparalleled depth of flavor. The atmosphere at Morimoto is as extraordinary as the cuisine. The restaurant's interior boasts the finest luxury architecture, creating an environment that is both opulent and inviting. The staff played a crucial role in elevating the experience, providing impeccable service with a warm, friendly demeanor. Their attentiveness and knowledge added a personal touch, making each guest feel special and well cared for. While dining at Morimoto comes with a significant price tag, the experience is worth every penny. The combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and a stunning ambiance makes this restaurant a must-visit for those seeking truly memorable dining.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner at Morimoto about 15 years ago. We treated ourselves to the premium-level Omakase menu with the mid-level drinks pairing, and we've always remembered that dinner as one of the best meals we've ever had. As we had always wanted to return, we decided to have our 31st anniversary dinner there. We were surprised to find that the restaurant no longer offers different levels of the Omakase menu or the drinks pairing. We ordered the Omakase anyway and asked for just one drinks pairing, as neither of us felt that we could/should drink that much alcohol on a Wednesday night, anniversary or no. The waitress very graciously offered to serve our drinks pairing in two half portions, which we did not expect, but happily accepted. Unfortunately, while the food was good, it just wasn't at the level that it was at our previous dinner 15 years ago. My husband and I both recall at least three or more courses in that first meal where we just about swooned with how incredible the food was. At this recent dinner, it was more just a "Yeah, that one was good." I will say that our dinner 15 years ago was dramatically more expensive than this one. My husband remembers paying about $1000 (including tip) for that dinner. This dinner was just under $500 (with tip). Very surprising, considering that I can't even get breakfast at my local diner for less than $20 anymore. However, my feeling is that the ingredients just aren't at the same level/price point these days that they were 15 years ago. Adding to all of this, the decor of the restaurant is tired. We were seated at first at a two-top along the wall, but I asked to move to a booth in the middle because the table and chairs at the two-top are fixed and I'm short, making the table too far away for comfort. Anyway, in the few moments we were at the first table, I noticed how dirty the wall was. I guess because you can't move the table out the clean behind it, the wall never gets cleaned.

The food was amazing. The food took a bit longer then expected and the waitress took a while before she created and was taking longer then most places but the food was totally worth it. Out of my comfort zone and totally worth it.

Food was great, very fresh. Service was super slow. Our server was very friendly, but she disappeared for long periods of time. Food came out before our sake. It was my husband's birthday, which I noted in the reservation, but no one ever mentioned that. After we finished the carafe of sake, we ordered 2 different glasses of sake to go with the last 2 pieces of sushi. We received these at the same time, but then close to 45mins passed with no one stopping by. We had empty water glasses, our plates and sake were empty. We initially thought about ordering dessert and/or more drinks, but we could not flag anyone down and no one stopped by, despite us clearly trying to get someone's attention, looking around, etc. No one even came to fill up our water or clear the empty plates! Finally our server reappeared, and we just asked for the check. She said "oh, no dessert?" Are you serious?! A leisurely pace is one thing, but this was ridiculous. Their loss for missing out on a higher check and bigger tip.

We ordered Omakases, one was vegan. They were accommodating but one of the dishes seemed like a last minute thought and thrown together. Otherwise food was very good! Service was good. Value was not as good since there is so much competition in Philadelphia.
