Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant delivers one of the most unique and innovative dining experiences to Vancouver. Minami follows the pioneering footsteps of sister restaurant, Miku for introducing the Aburi style or flame seared technique to Vancouver’s thriving sushi scene in 2008. Aburi sushi requires no soy sauce or wasabi, as the chefs create specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to complement the flavor properties of each variety of fish.

From the kitchen, seasonal and regional ingredients are integrated into dishes to reflect the diversity of responsible food choices. Traditionally trained Japanese chefs are inspired by global flavors and cutting edge techniques to create a new style of cuisine. The culinary approach evokes passion and beauty, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware, handpicked by owner, Seigo Nakamura.

    Exceptional freshness and quality of food ingredients, in particular, the sushi and sashimi. Hot food orders could improve—although ingredients were fresh, there was too much of sauces added that unfortunately masked the main ingredient. Nevertheless, the wonderful service received with a very genuine and kind waiter has assisted with this restaurants overall high score👍 Will definitely return!

    Best fresh sushi in town, spectacular presentation with great service. I’ve been to Miami 4 times and every experience was 5 star. However we feel it’s a bit overpriced.

    Have been around and had sushi in many places. Honestly these were fabulous and different from others. Rectangular, thick and seared. Service was very friendly, professional and she knew her product. Adrienne was the best .

    Minami is one of our favorites, usually waiting for a while to order and wait some more for food is fine, but we had a concert in 2 hours so was not expecting the kind of delay like this time. Given they are changing their process, it is understandable. Now the food: the tofu salad got much smaller, still tastes great, but it’s not as filling. Salmon oshi still so good, expensive but worth it. Service is nice as usual, the wagyu steak however is just less impressive than before. Still enjoyed the experience, although much less than expected.

    My wife feels that compared to the sushi she had at Minami, all the sushi she has had before feels like a betrayal.

    Mikee was a terrific server - warm, kind and attentive. She really helped make sure our family dinner out was special. Thank you, Mikee. :) The food was flavourful, interesting and satisfying. The sashimi plating was dramatic and fun - and the sushi was top notch. It’s slightly pricier than your average sushi restaurant but this is not your average restaurant. No hesitation recommending it.
