La perle du quartier

Construit avant la guerre de Sécession et entièrement rénové en 1936 par la famille de Cal Milam, le Merrick Inn a fait office de manoir de l'une des plus belles écuries de Lexington. C'est ici, à Merrick Place, que Milam et son époux, Mr. Johnson, ont entraîné le célèbre Exterminator, vainqueur du Kentucky Derby de 1918. C'est également ici que Tut Tut, Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee et Dust Flower ont débuté leur carrière vers la gloire et la fortune. Aucun d'eux n'a cependant atteint la même renommée que celle de Merrick lui-même. Merrick a terminé sur le podium 157 fois et a remporté 62 courses. The menu for brunch has something for everyone. The food was delicious. The service was slow & not accommodating when we mentioned it. Lots of excuses. None of which made any sense. We love Merrick & will be back. But today was disappointing. And a birthday celebration so that was also a problem.

My husband and I have been dining at The Merrick Inn for a number of years. Our meals have always been during evening hours and the food, not to mention the service have consistently been excellent. For a change, we decided to attend their Brunch for my birthday which is featured on weekends. Regretfully, we were disappointed with the experience. Our server was not attentive and only did what was absolutely necessary. He never came back during the breakfast to check on us, and at the end of the meal, he handed us the check without even asking if we wanted anything else. My husband had to stop him to ask for coffee. My husband mentioned that it was my birthday, and our server did not even respond to his comment. As far as the food goes, my husband had an omelet which he enjoyed. The omelet was the size of the dinner plate and was packed with meats and veggies. Now, my Classic Eggs Benedict, on the other hand, was nothing special. The Country Ham was dry and extremely salty while the English Muffin over-toasted. As I mentioned earlier, overall, we were disappointed with the experience, so while we will continue to dine there periodically for an evening meal, Brunch will no longer be an option.

Great night catching up with friends for dinner! Sat outside on the patio and 10/10 atmosphere. 3/4 people had theNY strip and said it was the best steak they’d had in a long time. I had the Mediterranean chicken (sub for vegetarian option w/ portobello) and I thought it was a bit overpriced, but still tasty!

Merrick came highly recommended to us as travelers coming in from out of state. We were not disappointed! The restaurant was packed and the staff did their absolute best to keep up with a full house. Ambiance was great - the property gives off an old school country club vibe. Food was a home run, no other way to put it. If we’re ever back in Lexington, we’ll be back!

We love going to the Merrick and dining on the patio. Ambience was very good as usual. Food was excellent, grouper fingers are always the best. Sad to say that on this occasion they were understaffed and untrained. We communicated with our server upon arriving but he was quite busy with other diners. We were there for 25 minutes before we received anything to drink including water. To make matters worse, we ordered a bottle of wine only to have our server come back and tell us they were out. We then ordered a different bottle and after he went to get it, came back and told us they were out of this one as well! Third time was a charm as we finally received a bottle. After that things seemed to move along a bit smoother, but you can tell that the new ownership doesn't have a handle on how to schedule and train staff. I hope they correct the problem quickly, because Lexington has many other dining options.

All four ordered medallions of tenderloin special. Server miscommunicated special and what was included. Ended up with 4 additional topping charges added to check. My was lower grade tenderloin and rather chewy. Also 2 specials were priced as described by server and 2 were each priced $4 higher. When asked why, he apologized and stated he misunderstood instructions from manager. Not knowing what that really meant, I decided to drop the matter so as not to create a scene. Probably won’t return any time soon.

We have eaten at the Merrick Inn for many years. It’s always been a place for special occasions. We have never come to your brunch but had out of town guests for church Sunday and here’s that special occasion again. How disappointing this meal was. No ones meal was hot. Lukewarm. One guest couldn’t drink her coffee as it was so strong. But I’ll report on my meal. It will cover most complaints around our table of six. My first cup of caffeine free coffee was barely warm. I told my waitress and she brought me another cup which was the same barely warm!! I stuck to water. My waffle was thin (not like any Belgian waffle I’ve had before), cold and difficult to cut with my fork. Must have been frozen and then microwaved too long as that will cause this kind of texture to this type of item. My eggs were good but barely warm. No butter for the waffles ordered at our table. What a disappointment our meals were. My husband and I have never had a bad meal at Merrick Inn before this Sunday. My husband's and our neighbor’s birthdays are coming up soon and as last year we plan on coming to MI as we did last year. Sure hope we don’t have this experience with your food again. If so, we won’t be back. Our waitress was excellent!! Thank you.
