Construit avant la guerre de Sécession et entièrement rénové en 1936 par la famille de Cal Milam, le Merrick Inn a fait office de manoir de l'une des plus belles écuries de Lexington. C'est ici, à Merrick Place, que Milam et son époux, Mr. Johnson, ont entraîné le célèbre Exterminator, vainqueur du Kentucky Derby de 1918. C'est également ici que Tut Tut, Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee et Dust Flower ont débuté leur carrière vers la gloire et la fortune. Aucun d'eux n'a cependant atteint la même renommée que celle de Merrick lui-même. Merrick a terminé sur le podium 157 fois et a remporté 62 courses. Le Merrick Inn fut sous la direction et la gestion de la famille Murray pendant presque 40 ans, proposant le meilleur de la cuisine traditionnelle du Sud des États-Unis, ainsi que des spécialités innovantes. Les temps ont changé, mais il est certain que la beauté et le charme de l'endroit n'ont pas bougé d'un pouce.

Merrick Inn is a favorite special-occasion restaurant for us. Service and atmosphere help make it a statement experience. The food is always delicious. We have our go-to favorites, but try to experience something new when a special strikes our fancy. The grouper fingers appetizer are a non-negotiable; we never skip them. The rolls were light and delicious. The halibut with crab topping and the pecan-crusted pork tenderloin were perfect. Even the sides bear the hallmarks of attention to detail. We also had the creme brûlée, which we rarely skip. All in all, it lived up to our expectations built on years of never-let-you-down excellence. While not inexpensive, portions are generous enough to have leftovers for another meal, so it does represent a good value.

I have included a photo of what we received. I ordered medium rare and they brought me a prime rib that was totally brown all the way through. I let that one go back in hopes of something with at least a little pink. I received the same…brown all the way through. Another person ordered the hot brown and we were surprised the sauce was a weird shade or light brown. Merrick used to be a treat but is now just mediocre at best. We are taking it off of our go out to eat rotation. So sad that such a landmark has let its standards go so low.

It is pricey but still worth it. Dined in the bar area because it feels a little less stuffy for my taste and had a fantastic dinner in a great atmosphere. Excellent service and it was top shelf Thursday so got to enjoy a nicer bourbon for a good price. Looking forward to coming back in warmer weather to enjoy the patio experience.

Came to the Merrick Inn from Michigan. We had dinner to celebrate our 24th anniversary based on the recommendation of my mother who had been there many many years ago. Beautiful place, nice waiter, tasty food and very cozy. Loved it!

A great experience. The whole evening was Wonderful. The food was cook perfectly. The staff was professional and friendly. Carmen our waitress was absolutely delightful. Gave great advice on the food and really made us feel welcome. My family will be back.
