Nous avions réticences quand au bruit lorsque nous attendions pour être placés à la table. Finalement ça s’est bien passé. C’est bruyant car les gens sont enjoués mais l’atmosphère est tellement agréable qu’on oublie le bruit. Le service est extrêmement bien. On peut demandé à n’importe qui pour du service sans se faire dire que ce n’est pas leur table. Le service est rapide. À la fin on nous a servi un limoncello gratuitement. Ensuite on nous a offert un grappa aussi gratuitement. En discutant avec le proprio, il nous a demandé d’où on venait et pourquoi nous avions choisi son resto. There is only one way to describe it: Classic Russia in the heart of New York.
The history of Russian Samovar starts well before the restaurant itself. Originally Jilly's Canteen, and owned by a friend of Frank Sinatra, Jilly Rizzo, Samovar was the go-to hot spot for Sinatra and The Rat Pack.
In 1986, Roman Kaplan, founder of Russian Samovar acquired the property and was joined in 1987 by friends and business partners: Legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and Nobel Award Winning poet Joseph Brodsky. Baryshnikov's baby grand piano is still used daily by our performers and guests can still request the Brodsky table, where the legends used to sit and drink away the hours. Guests of private events also enjoy our private dining room, where Baryshnikov filmed Sex in the City.
Samovar has remained a celebrity hangout over the years. We've been lucky enough to feature impromptu shows by Liza Minelli and rumor has it that Mel Brooks adapted The Producers to film while sitting at our bar.

Almost 100 years old, this iconic East Village watering hole has pioneered “Dive Elegance”, where craft cocktails and a warm welcome meet. The bar has been a gritty dive bar frequented in the 1990s by The Ramones and The Bouncing Souls, who immortalized it in their “Holiday Cocktail Lounge” song. In the 1980s, Madonna, Iggy Pop and Keith Richards frequented its bar stools. Poets Allen Ginsburg and W.H. Auden were regulars in the 1970s, as was Godlis, who documented the punk rock scene, Frank Sinatra and Shelly Winters made it their haunt in the 1960s. Holiday Cocktail Lounge opened in 1950, succeeding The Ali Baba Burlesque, which entertained guests in the 1940s. The venue began its libational history back in 1919 as a speakeasy hidden in Ann’s Beauty Shop, attracting the likes of Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky during his East Village sojourn. It was the city’s 50th licensed bar when Prohibition ended in 1933. The building itself dates back to 1835.

Steps from Rockaway Beach, Bar Marseille is a Provence inspired restaurant, bar and rooftop with ocean views.

Named after the famed port city in southern France, Bar Marseille celebrates the eclectic collection of flavors that can be found along the Mediterranean coast.

Bar Marseille's menu highlights classic Southern French cuisine such as Grilled Sea Bass, Roasted Half Chicken and Niçoise salad, as well as bistro classics such as French Onion Soup and Steak Frites. Bar Manager Danny Trujillo oversees our popular cocktail program which highlights French and Mediterranean spirits.

Our wine list features over 100 French, Mediterranean and Domestic selections.

Bar Marseille hosts live music every Friday and DJs every Saturday.

Happy Hour is from 3 - 7 PM at the bar including drinks specials and $1 oysters.

Our rooftop is open from May through October.

Bar Marseille's sister restaurants include Amali (Manhattan), Calissa (Hamptons) and Juniper (Roslyn).

cooking and delivering one-of-a-kind dining experiences.

While Ipanema sells modern interpretations of classic dishes from Portugal and Brazil,
the menu combines Portuguese recipes with the zest and vibrancy of Brazilian cuisine
rooted in French cooking techniques. Our “cheerful and friendly spot tastes just like
Brazil & Portugal” and feels like a home “inside-of-a-restaurant.”

A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Giancarlo Junyent offers sharing plates of fresh
appetizers and mid courses, with a lovely finale of roasted meats and cured seafood,
followed by decadent desserts and wine.

The upstairs private loft, overlooking 36th street has sexy floor-to-ceiling windows and
is available for private reception parties of up to 50 ppl for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

Très bon restaurant, le service est excellent, bonne ambiance. La nourriture d’inspiration français est maîtrisée. Première visite et sans doute pas la dernière :) Le rapport qualité prix est vraiment bon ! Very good restaurant, excellent service. French-inspired food is mastered. First visit and probably not the last :) The value for money is really good!
