Le Blackfriars a été élu meilleur restaurant aux North East England Tourism Awards en 2013. Occupant un ancien couvent médiéval chargé d'histoire, fondé en 1239, le restaurant a servi de réfectoire pour les moines, ce qui en fait une des plus anciennes salles de restauration construite au Royaume-Uni. Ce restaurant de 72 places sert un menu de style britannique classique et copieux, à base de produits de saison provenant des fermes et des marchés locaux, accompagnés d'une grande carte des vins primés.
