Michael Bong didn’t come to Japanese cooking along the obvious route – he’s Korean, for one – but now that he has, he’s certainly making the most of it. Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar on Little Malop Street in the centre of Geelong is a tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo, with a focus on the charcoal grill and the skewered mates that come off it. That results in top-notch pork belly, beef and chicken thighs for the meat-eaters and salmon, prawns and scallops for the fish fans as well as beancurd and vegetables for the vegetarians. Aside from the grill, there is also an astounding array of sushi and sashimi dishes, octopus pancake balls, salt and pepper squid, alongside dessert options and a long cocktail menu that befits all the best, boozy backstreet izakaya joints in Japan. Take trip into Geelong town centre for a Japanese meal to remember at Tomodachi on Little Malop Street – just remember to book your table before you arrive, as they do get crowded.

    Best pub meal our entire table have had in years! From the chicken schnitzel to the crochets & kids meals - we couldn’t fault anything. We will certainly be back & bravo to the female head chef - you go girl! ✨👏🏻

    What a great venue ! Went with friends on Sat night and then booked in for Father’s Day the next night and went with my husband and 3 adult sons. We had an absolute blast playing a game of bowling and then had a delicious dinner. The pizzas are amazing , burgers so tasty and chicken Caesar salad was the best I’ve had in along time ! Highly recommend as a place to catch up with friends and family to create fun memories and have a great dining experience .

    Our group recently enjoyed a mid week lunch at Frankie Geelong and were impressed with the ambience, stunning decor and quality of the food and beverages. We plan to be back again soon!

    We had the share platter for 2 and overall the presentation was beautiful and there was well and truly more than enough food for the 2 of us. The food was beautiful, perfectly cooked and still so hot when it came to our table. The service was perfect, we weren’t constantly interrupted by them checking in on us but we never had to go searching for help either overall we had a perfect experience
