What a wonderful evening we had again! We feel like family when we are here! It’s the first place we come back to when we come to Kona! They’ve added some beautiful new decor to the setting which is lovely to begin with… the Ono and the calamari and the tuna and spider rolls were simply superb! They never disappoint here! Malia our server is so sweet and professional and a joy to be around! And the new owner couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly… great place! Go please… we’re going back at least once before we leave

Kenichi’s USED to be a place where you could get top shelf food, remarkable service, and an overall memorable experience. Last night was none of the above. $20 “Special Rolls” that were nothing special, could’ve gotten way better quality sushi over at KTA around the corner for a fraction of the price. Server was nice but really, really forgetful..and it wasn’t even that busy. So sad to see this place go down hill the way it did. I remember the days that Kenichi’s was the spot to celebrate and a birthday or an anniversary, now I wouldn’t even go there for happy hour.

The first 4 things we ordered off the menu were unavailable. In all there were 6 items that were not available. No mention of this until we ordered. Ultimately we got up and left. Went to Sakuras and that was amazing. Great decision not to eat here.

Excellent service, food and ambience. Not cheap, but worth a one time splurge on your Kona vacation -- also a welcome escape from the excessively touristy downtown Kona area, along with plenty of (no-cost) parking. You could easily stick to the sushi rolls and pass on the main courses.

We’ve been dining here for years, they recently had a change in ownership and probably half the staff either retired or left. We’re about three months into the new ownership, and it seems like they’ve studied the ship. Because changes like that can be a challenge to maintain quality. Both of our dinners were cooked perfection, service was very good and friendly, and the bartender put together a perfectly coy martini.

No sure if it’s the new owners or just the change in sushi chefs but the rice for my chirashi was extreme bitter and sour…”gohan wa niganatta”. My wife did/could not finish her Cali roll and i couldn’t eat the rice for my chirashi. Would have been much better with plain white rice. Friends and I eat here somewhat regularly but sad to say this was my last visit.
