Stone Crab

Fresh stone crabs are found in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They are hand harvested, one claw at a time, and thrown back to the sea. Joe Weiss, and his wife Jennie, discovered this unknown delicacy in the early 1920s, and soon after, began serving them at their restaurant in Miami Beach. Went here 5 years ago for our last visit to DC. Didn’t disappoint again. Food and service was excellent. Will definitely be back next time in town.

We had a 9:30 Saturday dinner reservation. Team was helpful, and food was good. At 10:45, we asked for an Espresso Martini, and were told that the bar was closed. We let the server know that we were never offered last call, and she returned to the bar. Bartender refused to make it a 2nd time. We asked for a manager. Manager had the bartender make the drink. This was after spending $393 in 75 minutes. This one bartender ruined what was otherwise a good night with his lousy and lazy attitude. As further disrespect, when asked where the restroom was he just pointed up, with an annoyed expression. He needs a reminder that this is the hospitality business, and without customers they’d be serving nobody, and making no money. Just a self entitled and lazy non professional, who doesn’t deserve to work in an establishment like Joe’s. He should be in a room by himself on a computer, if he doesn’t want to deal with guests. Not sure what bartender in a fine restaurant expects to have a closed bar at 10:45 on a Saturday night. Just a bully whom the rest of the team was obviously intimidated by. Had I not made a stink, he would have gotten away with this. I left a $100 tip anyway, of which he should have received none of. It’s a shame when one jaded employee can create so much stress for the guests and his coworkers. Joe’s and its guests deserves better.

The service was great! The food was outstanding as always. My husband and I are making a tradition of going here for his birthday every year and it doesn’t disappoint.

Spent $500 on 3 people without a bottle of wine Dover sole was mediocre, bone in filet was overcooked and the waiter suggested medium when I asked for medium rare plus. Never returned to talb I travel to DC frequently and have enjoyed Joe’s in the past. The quality of the food was so mediocre, we will not return. Too many other quality options in DC.

Service was initially slow, needed to ask for cocktail menu, the server didn’t ask and wasn’t around for us order apps while deciding on the rest of our dinner. The rest of the dinner was ok.

Michael H provided excellent service! He was friendly without being too intrusive. We were simply celebrating surviving a difficult year of teaching public school. Michael gave us complementary desserts. This made my friend cry because this was the first time we had received a thoughtful recognition. Also, the food was excellent. I highly recommend the crab cakes and key lime pie for dessert.
