Just go there and embrace the moment of theatre folks old and new, in front, in the audience, and behind the scenes, and most of all just let it happen and enjoy the food and drink. Hey I have been going there for 50 years so don’t take my word!

Due to a parade going on in the city we were over an hour late to our booking. I called ahead and they were so understanding and held the table. When we arrived we didn’t have long to eat before our show at the Eugine O’Neil theatre and they could not be more accommodating by suggesting items that were quick to made! Highly recommend - such amazing staff!

In the theatre district nice restaurant with a large enough menu to make everyone happy. Reasonable pricing and friendly service.

We enjoyed our lunch at Joe Allen's. The waiter (waitress) was amazing! She really knew what she was doing and she knew exactly what to do to get us in and out before the theater at 2. The only complaint I have is that although we had only booked a table for 5, a whole bunch of other ppl from our friend group showed up which would have been annoying for the maitre d but the whole back of the restaurant was empty where we were! It would have been very easy for them if they weren't so worried about yelling at us to just seat the guests in the EMPTY table next to us which had plenty of room. The guy who was seating us literally yelled at our friends for showing up and they had no idea that there was even an issue. A normal person would have seen that there was an empty 4 top in the back that was empty the entire time and put the extra people there. He didn't even think of it himself, I had to point out to him that the back two tables were absolutely empty and had been empty for the whole hour and a half we were there! They could have made another $400 for lunch if they had just seated our friends next to us but his ego got in the way of good service and he basically had a hissy fit when I went up to apologize for our group being bigger than we thought it would be. At any rate, his attitude scared away our friends so they not only lost business in an otherwise empty restaurant at 1 pm on Saturday, none of us have any good will toward the place and all of us being New Yorkers and going to the theater often, they just lost a lot of business and good will. Oh well! That's life in the big city!

In the past the food has been solid. But this time not so much. The shrimp was not fresh. The salmon was ok but the shrimp was terrible because it was too old. :(

This is a great pre-theatre dining experience. 1) The history of this restaurant is felt the moment you walk in - it’s a Broadway institution. 2) The service is great - staff is happy, friendly & professional. They know how to get you in and out for your show. 3) Food is delicious! I would say that the Joe Allen restaurant is more than a good meal, it’s about the experience!
