Dans le passé, Josef Sheekey faisait les marchés avec son stand de fruits de mer avant d'ouvrir un bar à huîtres sur St Martin's Court en 1896. Le restaurant a été rénové en 1998 pour renouer avec son glorieux passé, ses quatre chambres communicantes décorées avec des portraits originaux d'acteurs du 20ème siècle qui reflètent son rôle central dans le monde du théâtre. Acteurs comme spectateurs affluent ici pour les fruits de mer d'une fraîcheur immaculée et parfaitement préparés.

Always a reliable meal and a very pleasant team who look after you. So handy for theatres and Covent Garden.

Had a fantastic time, food, service and ambiance were just as I had hoped. Lovely celebration for my wife’s birthday. Even our children (actual adults now) were impressed. Will definitely return 👌

The staff were all very professional and friendly. The food was delicious. The service from our water was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for pre theatre or a night out in London.

Loved it! This is one of those old institutions that’s part of the London dining circuit . It felt like a dining room from the glorious past of silver screen . The walls are lined with b&w photos of famous faces of actors through the decades , no doubt who spent many a lunch or dinner here. Staff were very attentive and made sure water , etc were supplied promptly . Cocktails were sublime. We both had a grasshopper (. So nice to see this on a cocktail menu !) Very well balanced too . We went a la carte for lunch as it was a birthday celebration. Food was delicious and portions good size. We choose seafood as this is after all what the place has a reputation for . We were not disappointed- large prawn cocktails, miso glazed salmon . My partner was catered for ( pescatarian) when. She wanted the fillet of cod without the chicken butter sauce and instead was given a nice garlic butter sauce instead . The desert was also beautiful ( Banoffee choux bun) This is a seafood institution and the care and attention shows . Will definitely be dining here again and introducing other friends to its charms .

There are some very good things and overall I enjoyed the experiences. Most of the fruits de mare was delicious but the whelks were seriously overcooked and tough and tasteless. One or two unopened shellfish that shouldn’t have made it to the platter too. Small details but for a restaurant that is a fish specialist and at the prices you pay I think the customer has a right to more focus on the dishes. Service was good but again the history and the level the restaurant sells itself on , it could be better. The main course of hake and summer vegetables was also good (the romesco sauce was a delicious highlight) but little things like overcooking the French beans in the summer veg side seem easily avoidable. I suspect Monday lunch syndrome, where perhaps the main chefs are off after a busy weekend. But overall it does have a sense of theatre it was a good venue for a special date. I will go again because let’s face it we all have our not quite on it days and there is plenty more on the menu I want to give a go. It is a bit pricey but I am not too begrudging for an occasional visit with someone special. The wine list (my true area of expertise) is actually well focussed and reasonably priced for a restaurant of such stature. I enjoyed the Jurancon sec that match beautifully with the fruits de mare especially the dressed crab. Overall a solid 7/10
