We’ve been going to Il Porto for many years and this was our most disappointing experience. It appears that they were short staffed as our server was managing outside tables and inside tables. The poor guy was running all over. In addition, the price had increased over the last few years. You used to get a salad but that option is no longer a part of the meal. In addition, the recipe seems to have changed for the red sauce as the spaghetti and meatballs seemed different - and also a smaller portion. We still love the restaurant and the staff. It just seems that the experience hasn’t elevated despite the higher prices.

fettucine was super thick and hard, didn’t enjoy it at all. Service was somewhat neglectful. overall the food, service and ambience left much to be desired!

I've been eating at Il Porto for the past 25 years, even as recent as 4 months ago, Last night me and my party spent over 200 dollars to sit there uncomfortably for 90 minutes. WE HAD reservations and they still stashed us away upstairs. Even worse the greeter tried to put 4 of us at a table that could barely hold 2 people then had an attitude when I asked to be moved to another table, which BTW was not much better. Our server never even asked us if we wanted bread, I had to ask near the end of the meal. The service was not terrible, just below par but I the young lady was very nice. I do not think I will be going back there anytime soon, perhaps maybe never again. I could have a better experience elsewhere for less than half of what we spent last night.

A little on the pricier side, but hands down my go-to “occasion” restaurant. Family in town, retirements, promotions, graduations, holidays, etc. I go 2-3 times/year. From the history of the building (written in the menu), to service, to quality, Il Porto is always top notch!

Il Porto might be described as a hidden gem--perhaps not advertised/promoted as energetically as some--but it is unsurpassed. Our recent dinner there with a party of five was perhaps the best we have enjoyed in 40+ years of patronizing Old Town Alexandria restaurants. The food was superb, the service impeccable (astutely attentive but not the least intrusive), the ambiance charming (warm, comfortable and NOT uncomfortably noisy!) and given all that, the pricing was very competitive--a real value. Remarkable!

My boyfriend and I wanted to try this restaurant for his birthday dinner and were very disappointed. The food is too overpriced and portions are small. That usually isn’t a problem if it was fine dining but we could’ve gotten the same quality of food at Olive Garden. We went to Mia’s after because he was still hungry and we wished we just went there in the first place. Our bill probably would’ve been the same and the food is way better.

We enjoyed live Jazz on a Wednesday evening and the food was fantastic! Gluten free penne eggplant parmigiana was amazing. Service was above and beyond. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a great time enjoying a jazz dinner at Il Porto. The jazz trio was outstanding, and the food was delicious. Our server provided exactly the right amount of service, and we all agreed that it was an evening well spent.

My family is having a birthday for my niece 19 years old to celebrate with it. We enjoyed it but we're early for dinner at 4:45 PM or after. Foods are delicious! A restroom is cleaned. Our waiter is friendly and chats with us to keep things up.
