The lobster was severely overcooked and totally dry. The worst lobster I have ever had in my life. My wife’s chicken was very dry and the macaroni and cheese was too salty. Overall a terrible meal.

This has been a must go place for our yearly stop in Kennebunkport but is not what it used to be. Prices have skyrocketed and the food isn’t as good. My wife had a pork chop, fair at best and I enjoyed the Mediterranean stew that was good but again not great. It’s a shame that restaurants have become so expensive but much of that is inflation driven.

After reading many reviews, we expected much better from this restaurant. We didn’t anticipate that it would be the best ever in any category, but it fell short of our reasonable expectations. Our server was terrible. Brisk, inattentive, and uninformed about the menu. She contributed less than nothing to the experience. When food came, they did not know who had ordered what and we had to guide them three times, for wine, appetizers, and main courses. The servers called out the item and we let them know who had ordered it. The servers who cleared the table after each course stopped by prematurely and repeatedly to ask if we were finished - when some still had forks in their hands. And to clear the table, they asked us to hand them our plates and utensils. The area around the table was not crowded. It’s not that handing plates is hard, it’s that it is not service. We had to ask for tap water refills a few times, but of course were offered wine refills many times. The space was loud and it was at times difficult to hear one another. We’d picked a later seating to avoid this, and indeed, after 8:30 pm, the sound level decreased. The food was ok - but wanted to mention two questionable items. We asked for steak frites to be cooked medium - it was more rare than rare - mushy raw and red. We couldn’t deal with sending it back. And the cucumber, tomato, mozzarella salad was actually a big bowl of greens with two slices of slightly outdated tomato and a few tiny cubes of mozzarella. Clearly a disappointment at the peak of summer. The menu did not mention the copious greens at all. With entrees at $48, we expected service and menu to be at that elevated level - albeit for a local restaurant.

We were seated promptly at our reservation time, and the server showed up within a minute or two. Our only question was my wife wondering if we could order from the bar menu. The answer was yes, but we should have been offered that as an option. Minor complaint, more of a suggestion. My wife had looked at the online menu before we arrived since we had never been to Hurricane and didn't know what to expect. She ordered fried oysters, I ordered the catch of the day (halibut), and we ordered the mussels appetizer. The bread that arrived first, with olive oil with herbs and spices for dipping, was very good. The mussels were excellent. The capers were an especially nice touch. My wife said the oysters rivaled the best she has had (she is a connoisseur of that dish), and the sweet potato fries were as good as any. The halibut, served on a puree (I forget what it was), with white asparagus, mushrooms, and some tortellini type of thing with an excellent filling, was perfectly cooked, not a simple thing with halibut which can get overly dry very quickly. A few more pieces of the pasta would have been good. The server was attentive but unobtrusive. Our one mid-meal request was addressed promptly. It is an excellent location. When we go back I will request a table by a window, but our table in the middle of the room offered a nice view. The dinner menu is not inexpensive, but for the quality of the food, service, and venue it was good value. The bar menu prices are typical for the area. The restaurant was full, but did not feel crowded. We did not consider dessert, and did not try any of the cocktails for which the Hurricane is noted. Parking in a nearby public lot was easy. It is fine dining, as described. The atmosphere was lively but not raucous (although of course one rowdy table could change that, but that's just how it is). Well worth a visit.
