It is a charming place, but sometimes the food is hit or miss. My friend and I both ordered eggs benedict. My eggs were overcooked (hard yolks); and hers was under poached (super runny). Our server was great and quickly went back to kitchen for reorder. I changed my order to something else and it was mushroom quiche. Would never recommend this unless you love mushrooms; it only tasted like mushrooms and nothing else; no cheese taste like a typical quiche. I will try again, but I sure hope it is better next time around.

I've eaten here several times and the ambiance is lovely if you want a country English pub feel. The food is okay, fine, not stellar. This last time, however, we waited ***over an hour*** to get our food. And we dined as they opened, so there wasn't a full bunch of orders in ahead of us. Maybe someone took the waitresses order, I don't know and she didn't explain. (But she brought bread.) The fish and chips seemed like it sat under a heat lamp. Meh. And the salmon teraki salad was just okay, and I couldn't tell if the salmon was supposed to be warm or cold. It was all room temperature. Not a great experience and I'm generally loathe to write bad reviews.

A new restaurant for us, on my wife's July 4 birthday. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The dining room had a spartan but delightful "old pub" feel. Food was fresh, well-prepared and delicious (and generous portions).

My family and I have been dining at the Hunter's Head for almost 30 years and after the dining experiences we have had the last two occasions would not return without significant changes being made. While I understand menus change over time, part of the draw to the Hunter's Head was their commitment to traditional English pub fair and fresh/local ingredients. The menu now is sparse and the seasoning on the food is even more so. Of the three people who dined this most recent evening, none of us enjoyed any of our meals. I had ordered the "Teriyaki Glazed Salmon" that was to be served with rice, green beans, and toasted almonds. The Teriyaki "glaze" was more like a gelatin substance (thick/chunky) and rather than the "toasted" almonds being served on green beans which would be traditional, they were almond slivers (not toasted) and placed on top of the gelatin teriyaki on the salmon. It was a strange and not pleasant pairing. I substituted mashed potatoes for the rice and the potatoes were chunky and lacking any flavor. Outside of the food being terrible and having no flavor or seasoning, the service was slow and there were flies swarming all of the tables outside which made the dining experience even more unpleasant. If the Hunter's Head wants to retain it's former glory, I would suggest returning to their old menu and hiring a new chef. Until then, we unfortunately will not come back to dine there.

My food rating should be N/A because we didn't stay and order any food, because... We arrived for our reservation and were seated in the main dining room. The outdoor tables were full. The dining room is quite small, and there were 7 other diners in the room with us (We were a party of 2.). One table was 3 covers and the other was 4 covers. Service was NON-EXISTENT. We stayed for 22 minutes and during that time NOT A SINGLE SERVER, NOR EMPLOYEE VISITED OUR TABLE. A group of 4 was sitting right next to us...literally we could reach out and touch them. They rec'd their drink orders, and five minutes later their server took their dinner order. NO ONE spoke a word to us. No water, no bread, no apologies for delays, no drink order, ZIPPO. We watched the 3-top get their meals and still no one approached our table or even acknowledged our presence. (This dining room might be 20x20 in size. You can't get lost in there. We were clearly invisible.) By the way, when I made my reservation I noted that it was to celebrate a birthday. I thought that might have made a tiny difference. NOPE. It appeared that only two servers were available for the entire restaurant and that they were focused on serving the guests who were seated outside. Where was the manager? Where was ANYONE? We got up and left after sitting for 22 minutes. What a huge disappointment. This restaurant is in Upperville, VA. There is SO MUCH $ in this small enclave surrounded by horse farms and mega-estates. How can the service be that poor? Know your clientele. We wound up going to an Italian restaurant in a strip shopping center in Aldie just to get dinner after driving nearly 60 minutes from Chantilly. Absolutely will not recommend, nor try to visit again. Recommendation to ownership: Put some eyes on your operation. Miserable service.
