Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. Classic comfort cooking takes centre stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus. A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

                                                            We sat at a picnic table across the sidewalk from the restaurant. Weather was fantastic, especially after we left Las Vegas and 110-plus degrees. Service was great. We shared tuna crudo, the garlic squid, chicken wings and fries. The wife had a watermelon spritz and I had a few pints of slow hand pale ale. Dessert was strawberry shortcake with homemade preserves. No complaints whatsoever. Great food and experience

                                                            Service was good, food was for the most part good. The “fish cake Benny” special was nice, the brunch Sandy was good as well, and the side salad was better than expected. The potatoes, however, were a little over fried and unseasoned, but not a deal breaker. Only real issue was that the steak and eggs dish tasted and looked weird and unpleasing. It was a gray and pale pink and had an “old” flavour (not in a good way). I’m guessing it was cooked, sliced, left too long on the sheet tray under an heat lamp, and then served. We mentioned it to the server who referred us to the manager, who mentioned it was just the way the cut was, but he’d let the kitchen know. Either way, the bill was not altered at all (not even for the tea) despite not being able to eat most of the dish, which was a bit surprising. Overall, HSC is still better than Tableau, but Maxine’s still trumps them both by miles.

                                                            Great patio space and the summer cocktails were delicious! Especially the watermelon spritz! The service was exceptional and they went out of their way to accommodate our party.

                                                            One of the best restaurants we’ve been to across North America since the pandemic. Arctic char and chop are outstanding. Phenomenal service as well.

                                                            Food and service were both exceptional. The staff were so attentive and accommodating for my big group. We had a wonderful lunch. There was no AC inside the building so it was very hot but otherwise everything else was incredible. Thank you!
