                              Warmly welcomed, never felt rushed Ordered the pie which as explained took 30 mins to arrive but it was well worth the wait. The pie was piping hot with tender beef and rich gravy inside, the mash potato was beautiful and creamy. Will return and always recommend.

                              When in York you have to tast the legendary steak and ale pie, or just have a drink and soak up the ambience of the wonderful venue

                              Food was not good, servce was not good. Everyone was drinking outside and they had no available tables inside.

                              Great food and friendly staff in a good old fashioned pub. Must have a pint of Guy Fawkes and recommend the sausage and mash and fish and chips.

                              We had the beef Sunday lunch. Advertised on the website as roast sirloin . We have eaten here before and it was very good. This Sunday the beef was slow cooked beef rump , I was slightly disappointed but went with it as I asked if the beef was pink. It was slightly pink and very tender but lacked flavour, not like a sirloin. Veg was average carrot and mange tout , roast potatoes tasted more like frozen ones and not freshly roasted on the premises. Homemade Yorkshire pudding was delicious with extra gravy provided at no additional cost. Staff were excellent and the pub is lovely.

                              Booked a table, not busy but was seated with the till beside us where staff were constantly coming over to use, service was slow,the waiter bought our mains, dropped a chip off the plate, apologised, and left it sat on the floor, asked if we wanted water for the table and had £4 added to the bill without being told of the charge for water. Staff not very welcoming, food ok but would look elsewhere next time in York

                              Was greeted on arrival and shown to our table which we asked to change and they did without question. The staff were attentive and were on hand to serve us whenever needed. We had to wait 30 minutes for our dinner, BUT, that was written on the menu as we had chosen the steak and ale pie. The food arrived bang on time and it was delicious. For pudding we had the tiramasu and that also was incredible.!! Overall everything was so tasty. Price wise it maybe was on the high end, however, given the location and the special building you are in I suppose that's to be expected. Paid the bill (no service charge was added) and left a little tip as the service was very good. Would I go back?, Yes I would.
