The latest in a long line of restaurants headed up by the Chowdury family since way back in 1957, Gufaa in London’s Angel is the result of years of practice and experience. Situated amongst the bars and shops of trendy Upper Street, Gufaa makes the perfect stop off before hitting the local nightlife but is equally the kind of relaxed, friendly restaurant you can make a night of. Decorated in a contemporary, light and simple style, Gufaa has an upmarket look, suited to everything from business lunches to romantic dining. The recipes explored on Gufaa’s expansive menu have been passed down from generation to generation, resulting in dishes which are authentic and delicious, inspired by the flavours of the whole Subcontinent, from north to south, east to west. The team encourage their visitors to really enjoy their experience and to take time over their food, secure in the knowledge that the high quality dishes produced in the Gufaa kitchen should be savoured.

interesting menu that goes beyond your typical Indian fare. Slightly pricey but the meal was certainly worth it.

Food was very nice, but the service was a bit rushed. As soon as we finished the last bite of our starters our plates were collected and we were asked if we were ready for our mains. Otherwise everything was nice and I would eat here again.

Had a great evening at Gufaa last week, really excellent fresh food and good service. I would particularly recommend the curried crab meat starter and tandoori duck.

My email confirmation in black and white, was '50% off food only' without any other clauses. But some time after I've received the confirmation email, and just before paying for my meal, the restaurant added another condition in between, 'when ordering a minimum of a starter and a main course per person from the A la Carte Menu.'. When we arrived for our meal I asked the waiter if the offer was 50% off food and he said yes, mentioned nothing else about the newly added "condition". Only when we asked for the bill, the waiter 'explained' that we should have ordered 3 starters and 3 main courses to get 50% off; I told him that this is different from what I have booked. I feel cheated. This is DISHONEST and I will not go back again.

Our dinner at Gufaa last Friday was an experience we hope to repeat. The chicken and duck tikkas for starters were well sized portions (big but not too big), succulent meat and delicious sauce. The tandoori chicken (on the bone) was very tasty and the shrimp bhuna was the best I've had in London. The only disappointment was the lamb in the sagwala was a bit overdone.

With the offer it cost about £40 for 2 people, including starters, main + rice, bottle of wine and service. The house chardonnay is £15 a bottle and quite nice for house wine. Food was nice. Very extensive menu and a few things on there that are not just the usual things you get everywhere. I wanted something light + had a very tasty veggie main that was full of fresh vegatables and not covered in tonnes of gloopy curry sauce as most places do. They said I could request it hotter or cooler (in terms of spice) if wanted. Service was fine - they poured the wine every now and then. Service was a little slow for the main course but we werent in a rush so it didnt really affect us. No idea why it was only half full on a Saturday night.

Staff polite, although we did wait for about an hour for our mains. Mixed reactions for food, i had the lamb and spinach which was very nice, there were some chicken dishes that were well received and a couple that were just ok. We were a group of 7 and although we were not particularly loud, it was nice that they put us at the back away from the couples so as not to disturb them so everyone could enjoy their evening! Decent wine selection too.

My visit to Gufaa started oddly, with the waiter seemingly incredulous that I'd booked a table for 1! After that it was simply excellent though. Very speedy service, fast and friendly. The atmosphere was buzzing. The poppadums were the crispest I've had for a long time as was the salad, both unusual for Indians. I had a superb Lucknawi Murgh Tikka starter and equally good main, Chef's Special Chicken Curry, with the nicest Indian side dish, Broccoli Massala, I've ever eaten. Highly recommended.
