Le chef James Boyce et Suzan, sa femme et partenaire, vous invitent au Galley and Garden, la nouvelle destination de Birmingham pour savourer une cuisine d'inspiration américaine et française. Occupant l'historique Merritt House sur Highland Avenue, le Galley and Garden a fait l'objet de travaux de rénovation durant l'été 2014, rehaussant la splendeur de la maison d'origine en y ajoutant des touches modernes. We eat out regularly and were excited to try G&G given its glowing reviews; sadly it simply didn't live up to these reviews by any stretch. The staff were warm and friendly and the old house has a lot of personality and warmth, but sadly those were the high-points. From a service experience, the entire meal felt extremely rushed; many restaurants have now started to ask their patrons what pace they would like to have, but the speed of service made me feel like we were at a fast-food restaurant. We were literally 2-3 bites into our appetizer when our main course showed up, and it was seconds after our plates were picked up that we were presented with the check, and less than two minutes after dropping it, the server was hovering around the table to pick it up. It was very off-putting. As for the meal, it was solid if un-spectacular. We shared the Braised Pork Belly: it was a little firm but had good flavor and the apple and apricot compote really added to the taste nicely. From our entrees, my partner had the special (Red Fish with cornmeal) and while the presentation was very nice, it was completely flavorless. She never uses salt or pepper but needed both to entice any flavor from the meal, and still finished up leaving half of it. Another heads-up for a server: if a patron leaves more than half their meal, it may be worth asking if they did not enjoy it. I had the Angus Beef Short Rib which for what it's worth, was presented nothing like the alluring picture on the website. There was almost no demi-glace at all and while it was tender it was again not overly flavorful. It was fine but not memorable. Would we come back? I don't think so. The staff were friendly, actual restaurant warm and inviting, but the food was uninspiring. We wanted so badly to find one of those places you add to your "A" list, but it sadly will not added based on this visit.

The food tonight was mediocre. The apply/bluecheese salad was okay….nothing special…..the pecans were old and bordered on rancid in flavor. The pork chop was so tough I asked for a steak knife but still only ate half of it. The desserts were terrible! The bread pudding was dry and the bread pieces were much too big and no sauce to soak them up. Very disappointing. It’s a lovely setting and I have eaten here several times.

Relaxing and elegant restaurant! Enjoyed a post-play meal and cocktails. Very festive atmosphere with soft music in the background. Can’t wait to go back!

Lovely dinner. I had the short ribs and my companion had the pork chop. Both were delicious. Spot on service.

This is the most charming and quiet and delicious and courteous restaurant I've found after visiting Birmingham regularly for over a decade. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fine dining experience sans hustle and bustle!

We were celebrating a birthday. The food was spectacular! We also needed to get to a concert and enjoyed a delicious meal without feeling rushed. They were efficient.
