This was our second visit to the Tavern. We go to DC usually once or twice a year and found this restaurant last year. Our first visit was fantastic, but that was due to the fact that it was not overly busy and the people were not loud and waiter was attentive. The food for both trips was excellent and not expensive. Our second visit was a disaster. It was not what we had hoped for, we could not even hear each other talk. People all talking loudly. We understand that as an authentic tavern it would have been noisy, but the restaurant needs to maybe consider numerous large groups in one room.

Crispy oyster appetizers was great. I love the George Washington favorite, the orange duck.

Celebrated Fathers Day with my family of 7 and we were given great service. Sunday brunch menu is really good.

Such a neat experience! To dine where some of our founding fathers and their esteemed friends and colleagues dined/partied, is an incredible experience. The food is not just catchy amusement park food but quality yummy food! Would dine again and the price is great!

Well, We had the BEST lunch here about a month ago and decided to bring five of our friends in for dinner last night. The experience was 100% the opposite of our first visit :( We did not feel welcome; the service was slow and non-responsive. All of our meals came either "OK" in quality (Duck was very fatty), and everything went to the table COLD. I was SO Embarrassed. We also felt rushed (our dinner was at 7:30) to leave. Our server said the kitchen was closing halfway through our meal as if to say "Hurry up so we can go home." I was very disappointed, and no one took the leftovers home. It was a special night as my friend celebrated his retirement from public service (40 years).

The peanut “soop” is the strangest thing I’ve ever had. That being said it was surprisingly good. The Brie pastry was spot on and the wait staff was amazing! The only thing that could have made it better is if they had the old colonial outfits. We were about 6 months too late. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to try old colonial cuisine.
