Have been going to Fugakyu for years and while the sushi is still very good, the service has gone way downhill. Waitress was downright rude, impatient and when we ordered a bottle of while wine she overfilled 3 glasses so that she didn't have to chill the bottle, I have never had had waiter do that, very odd and at the end of the meal we had warm wine! She served the food, the minute someone left the table, even was told they were going to the bathroom so the presentation was ruined. It is a shame, this was a nice restaurant in the past, but I guess lost its way in service.

Great place to take on a date. The private rooms were really nice and cozy with ambient lighting. The food was good. Would 10/10 recommend the Duck Tataki, for sure the best dish we had.

The staff was overwhelmed and they seemed annoyed with the customers the whole time. Food was ok, but service was pretty bad.

we were put in too confined a space when there was so much available seating! we were right in the face of our neighboring table. further our waitress was not warm at all!! not a smile on her face but left a sour taste in our mouths even though food was great!!!

This is the best Japanese restaurant in the Boston area. Place is clean with excellent decoration, staff is very professional, and the food is simply the best. Highly recommended

Service was terrible, our server seemed new as he didn’t seem knowledgeable about the menu items and seemed like he was overwhelmed with tables as he was out of breath and kept touching his hair and face and apologizing to us. Halfway through dinner my boyfriend started to feel sick (most likely not from the food) so we decided to pack up our food. Before leaving I remembered that my meal came with mochi, I asked the server about it and told me that it came on the plate but made sure to tell me he saw it on the plate and it was the “colorful things on the plate.” But maybe he forgot to put it in that bag… which he did! There was nothing colorful on the plate, however there was a coconut jello that the server says was the mochi and that mochi does not have ice cream… I just said ok. The manager later explained that depending on the day, the meal can sometimes come with mochi or some sort of jello. I wish this was indicated before ordering (or on the menu) as I love mochi! I ate the rest of my food when I got home and found plastic in the ribeye kettle rice. Even though the food was alright, finding plastic in the rice made me not want to return. Also, I booked on open table and the only option I was given was to book a room with a $25/person deposit. When we got to the restaurant it was pretty dead so I don’t understand why we couldn’t book a regular table. The way the booking is setup is misleading and forces you to book the “experience” so you have to put down a deposit that isn’t later applied to the bill, but will be returned to your card after dinner. This experience was overall not enjoyable.

food is exceptional no matter what your preference. friendly service and private places to sit. perhaps the best mai tai if you aren’t up for sake. truly top notch and worth the premium price.
