I had time to my reservation for just after they opened so the restaurant was almost deserted and extremely quiet, which suited me perfectly. I make it my personal Independence Day week tradition to choose Faunce's Tavern for July 2nd as my Independence Day lunch place (since the Declaration was actually ratified on July 2nd), and I always choose their Reuben sandwich and sweet potato fries as my meal, and both are always excellently cooked and prepared. The serving stuff in the time that I have been going there have never been anything less than friendly and professional and make it a pleasure to dine there. I have even brought members of my own family to dine there during Independence Day week, and I know for a fact that they have enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere immensely!

Overall: super historical place. Nice service. Interior looks fabulous, keeps w history. Food: nice variety. Quality. Ambience: great. Music: Live Jazz band. Very nice. Beverages: beers in draft are local, which is kinda cool cuz of the "all american" thing - at least to me. But dont expect a guiness draft. Note: re: sparking wines, only proseco. By the glass. And by the bottle for champange is only TWO to choose from: a $175 or the $245 choice. Which i thought a bit pricey on the bottle side. Poor selection there. That said, if uou want to be a part of history, and enjoy the area too. I must go to.

We went to Fraunces Tavern for dinner one night on a recent trip to NYC. I must say it was not a great experience. After we sat down, we noticed one of the bread plates at the table was visibly dirty. The water glasses also looked a little questionable. The waiter who took our order was clearly not paying attention. He then disappeared; later, another waiter took over our table and said the first waiter had "left." Our dishes came out in haphazard fashion. We had ordered two watermelon salads; one came out instantly, the other came out 5 to 10 minutes later. One of the entrees came out with the appetizers. One side dish did not appear until everyone had finished eating. The food itself was, I must say, very meh. My flatbread with cheese and argula had a very thin bread layer and too much arugula piled on, overall it didn't hold together well and was bland. My husband had grilled salmon, which he said was lukewarm. The butternut squash puree that accompanied the salmon seemed an odd choice, as it didn't complement the salmon well texturally or tastewise. The watermelon salads were okay but nothing special. My husband had a good lager, but the sparkly sangria and hard cider that I tried were both overly sweet and disappointing. Overall the place, while historic, is very dark inside, and I found myself wondering about the overall cleanliness. Bathrooms were reasonably clean but need updating. Sorry to say, but I would not recommend it or go back.

Can't beat the ambience and history of the tavern- perfect ending to a day spent in the battery/ financial district . Statue of Liberty Great meal- oysters were delicious I had green apple salad with shrimp and it was delicious as well My dining partners enjoyed the pot pie and lobster roll ! the sticky pudding for dessert was also good
