Experience the beauty of the Pacific Ocean at The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steak, overlooking Kailua Bay on the Big Island Hawaii. Enjoy fresh seafood from Hawaii and fresh seafood flown in weekly from California, plus our signature Bucket of Fire and Volcano flaming drinks, all within walking distance to shops and historic sites.

A landmark (formerly the Ocean View Inn) and a local’s favorite Kona restaurant since 1934, the building housing The Fish Hopper has been beautifully restored to expand upon its spectacular ocean views. We proudly serve seafood from sustainable sources, harvested by methods that do not harm the environment.

Parking is available up the driveway, it's lighted for ease in the dark. There are also handicap spots where there is ramp access to the back of the dining room.

I got the Mahi Mahi that was on the menu of the day. It was served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. It was good but not exceptional, the fish was a little bit dry but maybe it’s the texture of that fish. The service was classic, I would have expected to get suggestions and a description of the menu of the day.

The food was disappointing. Not enough non-fish options. I ordered spicy shrimp pasta but it was not spicy at all. We ordered chicken teriyaki but the chicken came out tough. The desserts were good and the drinks are good as well. The service was slow but the view was great.

Food was great- service was terrible. Why: Bottle of wine we ordered was warm, did not put in an ice bucket. Was never offered desert but saw them offering other tables. Never chatted with us at all, seemed like we were a bother. We asked to sit at another open table for the view, was told that we couldn’t because our server would be mad as they just sat someone in that section. However the couple right behind us was sat there? Probably the worst is when we got there we were ignored for 5 minutes, not greeted or told to go to the desk. 4 servers came by and not one offered a “hello will be with you shortly” or “thank you for coming by”.

When a restaurant manages to remain as friendly as family, deliver very good food , and service that is personal, not aloof, you have a winner. We will be back for sure. The crew makes a very good meal better.

We come here every time we come to Kona. We love the ambiance and the service is great. Only issue this time was that the monchong we ordered this time was a little tough. We think it was cooked just a little too long. However eaten with the risotto (which was delicious) it still tasted good.

I'm a big fan of the Fish Hopper! Clam Chowder should have been served while it hot. And Lacoy cake has been removed from their dessert menu.

Our reserved table had an excellent view of the Kona shoreline and the NCL Pride of America cruise ship that was anchored offshore. Our server provided exemplary service with a smile!

Genuinely one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Every piece of seafood at our table(ahi nachos, ono, mahi mahi) were clearly frozen. Rice was disgusting, sides were disgusting, drunks were disgusting. Servers are very nice but honestly do not waste your money! If you are a person who likes seafood go literally anywhere else. Highly recommend huggo’s or on the rocks instead.

Nice location beside the ocean. Great menu with lots of choices. The local Monchong with the risotto and artichoke hearts is one of the best dishes we have ever had. Very reasonable prices as compared to the hotel dinning areas up north, but the ambience is not as special . I would highly recommend this restaurant!
