Experience the beauty of the Pacific Ocean at The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steak, overlooking Kailua Bay on the Big Island Hawaii. Enjoy fresh seafood from Hawaii and fresh seafood flown in weekly from California, plus our signature Bucket of Fire and Volcano flaming drinks, all within walking distance to shops and historic sites.

A landmark (formerly the Ocean View Inn) and a local’s favorite Kona restaurant since 1934, the building housing The Fish Hopper has been beautifully restored to expand upon its spectacular ocean views. We proudly serve seafood from sustainable sources, harvested by methods that do not harm the environment.

Driveway to parking is on the RIGHT side of the building when you look at it from the ocean. OR, it's to the right of the main entrance and coffee shop. Parking is available up the driveway, it's lighted for ease in the dark. There are also handicap spots where there is ramp access to the back of the dining room.

The food was average, and one of our friends felt his meal had no flavor at all. Our server Chelsea was terrific.

Food well prepared and plentiful. Alcohol fairly priced. Service friendly. But WAY too fast. Only halfway through appetizer when entree came. Felt rushed. Cheesecake excellent. We were seated on time, however I made our reservation for Valentines Day well over a month ago and asked for a window table. Upon arrival, there was our table… yet a woman checking in just in front of us, whose reservation could not be found, insisted that she had a res and was given that rare window seat. We had a nice time and a nice table, but I don’t understand that preferential treatment of the other person…a local maybe?

We went for Valentine’s day dinner. The service and special drinks were wonderful! The food was fine.

We had a great waiter. Made the experience a lot of fun! The fish was fantastic as always. Mashed purple sweet potatoes are a must-have. They have an extensive drink menu. The bartender was extremely friendly. Two thumbs up!

The true measure of a restaurant is how they perform under pressure. Dinner at a packed Fish Hopper for Valentine’s Day brought the four of us a five star experience. Delicious food, memorable ambiance and ultra friendly and professional service. Highly recommended.

The Location of the Restaurant with a view over the Ocean is Lovely, but the restaurant lacks Charme and Style. The cuttlery looks as if they bought it from the military. The food is ok, but if I go out for dinner, I want to make it have an experience and enjoy, not just fill my stomach. But to be fair, this restaurant is not worse than others. If you are looking for a place with style and atmosphere, you must choose one of the hotel Restaurants. No where on the Island can you find European restaurant culture.
