The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London.Today, Mike Pope and his team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. Serving a rustic menu packed with pub classics and other items such as freshly baked pizzas, we have something for everyone to enjoy. With the rural splendour of Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Mid Wales on the doorstep, there's plenty to discover!

Many of our ingredients are handmade at Ludlow Farmshop.
