At Di Paolo’s our journey began with our beloved grandparents, Maria & Albert Di Paolo, who humbly opened a family pizzeria and small grocery store known as Italian Kitchen. As the aroma of freshly baked pizzas and the taste of homemade sauce filled the air, they, along with our father, Michael Di Paolo, expanded, adding more seating to accommodate our growing clientele. Before long, the bustling atmosphere and the buzz of the satisfied customers prompted them to evolve into a full-fledged restaurant where families and friends could gather to enjoy well portioned Abruzzese meals and lively conversation, while being entertained with live music throughout the restaurant. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to treating every guest like family. Bardea, pronounced: bar-DAY-ah, is the Italian term for "the goddess of food and drink." The stunning, 120-seat restaurant utilizes ingredients from local Delaware Valley farms and purveyors, and features modern interpretations of traditional Italian and Mediterranean dishes. In 2019, Bardea Food & Drink received a semifinalist nomination in the James Beard Foundation's "Best New Restaurant" category.

Michael DiBianca is a Culinary Institute of America graduate and New Jersey native who has been a local star in the Wilmington food/dining scene for more than a decade. This local treasure comes to the area from the former Restaurant 821 in Wilmington, where he was owner Tobias Lawry’s sous chef and then chef de cuisine. He went on the launch the renowned Moro restaurant and Satsuma Asian Kitchen & Bar in the Trolley Square area.
