The Belgian Monk opened in December 2000. The main objective was to create something different yet to fit in with the way drinking and dining is changing. It has become a successful and established bar and restaurant, offering customers a choice of a regular selection of some 45 beers together with a selection of special beers. The menu is based on serving only the best products available freshly prepared daily, at realistic prices, in an informal relaxed "friends and family" atmosphere. It provides more than just the meal or drink but a whole Belgian experience. A nicely revamped pub/restaurant, higher end prices for food which was not very good. Of the four meals ordered one as great (steak & kidney suet pudding) The others poor, Hake was over crumbed and dry, casserole was dry with dumplings like bullets. The deserts were the saving grace in a meal which was overall underwhelming. Bar staff very pleasant and helpful. Table waitress had no finesse and rather abrupt. It’s a shame the management don’t seem to be able to keep regular staff, maybe the problems lie there!!

The Kings Head is a friendly local pub with excellent food - the Sunday Roast is so good, we rarely cook at home now. It’s a weekly treat!
