From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Had the 9 course taster menu. Each course was excellent, although it was funny that dashi featured in the first three courses. It didn’t matter and we would have gladly drunk gallons. The only picky point was that I told them I am gluten intolerant on the booking and when we arrived, but still got given multiple courses with gluten ingredients. If I had assumed that they were correct, it could have been messy.
