In 1976 Michael Garman returned to Brighton and opened IL Bistroafter being inspired by the Italian and French culture and cuisineduring his travels to the Provence and the western coast of Italy.His goal was to open Brighton’s first Mediterranean steakhouse.For the first time, Brightonians were able to order fresh pasta,arancini, dry aged beef, tiramisu and negronis.47 years later and now being operated by Michael's son Abe,IL Bistro still stands by the same principles, using local suppliersand produce, fresh ingredients and the best available dryaged British beef. The restaurant is situated in an 18th centuryfisherman’s cottage which we find rather fitting after Michaelspent years in Portofino, Livorno and Saint-Tropez, Europe’smost famous fishing villages.Booking info:Since reopening from covid we ask for a £10 per person deposit in our busier times which gets deducted from your bill at the end of your meal. Beautifully arranged over three floors, Bohemia delivers a full lunch and dinner menu that includes both large main dishes as well as small tapas-style plates and sharing boards. We are proud to say that all of our dishes, sauces and recipes are freshly produced in-house by our team.There are many seated areas within Bohemia’s quirky interior, including The Library and The Snug. For the warmer months, guests may be seated at the front of the venue, where they can take in Brighton in the heart of The Lanes where tables and chairs sit on the historic cobbled streets. Heaters and blankets are provided in cooler times.Families are always welcome at Bohemia…in fact, children are our VIP’s.
