A truly classic pub which has so much history, we even feature in the Dickens novel "Great expectations". This pub is a true gem - on a sunny day, enjoy the outside area near the sea; in winter, settle down by our real fireplace in the warm and cosy pub. Enjoy a drink in the "Drifters Bar" upstairs or a delicious meal in our downstairs restaurant area.
While Southend itself is known for its pier, it’s nearly as famous for our large beer garden. Sit back, slap on the sun screen and enjoy a nice cold beer, glass of wine or a cocktail, served to your table by one of our dedicated team members. Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner, a quiet drink with friends or a big night out, we look forward to seeing you soon in our bar.
The Punchbowl is a 17th century gastro pub, located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and the South Essex Salt marshes. We offer nose-to-tail style menu, with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily, as the season's best comes in, and always features day boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery. Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and york-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch. Throughout the summer we offer BBQ dining from our hand-cranked Asado and Rotisserie Grills.
