Water Lane is a restaurant based within a working market garden in the High Weald of Kent. Guided by the seasons, our menu reflects its sense of place in the English countryside where we grow our own vegetables and use local suppliers. Our ever changing menu is simple but prepared with imagination and care by our Head Chef Jed Wrobel and his team. The Good Food Guide 2023 describes us as 'A contender for one of the most charming eateries in Kent, it's pretty much impossible to resist the lure of this rural restaurant tucked away in a delightful walled garden...' We are open Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 4.30pm and take bookings for breakfast (until 11.45am) and lunch (until 3pm). Our daytime restaurant is currently located on our outside terrace under a tented awning, overlooking the garden. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a leash. From 2nd August we will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5.30pm when we will serve dinner in our Carnation House glasshouse.

Always a meeting point, The George has entertained three King Georges, Wellington, and the Mayor of London.Rye itself is unlike anywhere else in England. A medieval town locked in time and with a fascinating history, Rye offers an idyllic escape for relaxation or romance, just four miles from the rejuvenating sea air and white beach of Camber Sands.

Everything is cooked on the premises, including the sourdough bread and the icecreams. The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing.Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. We are a country Gastropub owned by farmers. Our farm supplies the beef, lamb and pork and we source other ingredients from local producers where we can. Our small seasonal menu changes regularly reflecting what is available in our area. We pride ourselves on being very much a country pub, offering freshly prepared seasonal food and a warm welcome. We also love offering locally produced drinks, such as gins, rums, ales and wines, giving you the complete taste of Sussex. Our weekend menu is our delicious Asado Grill. A slightly reduced but very tasty BBQ menu, where everything is cooked on our outdoor grill. We advise to book in as we get very busy!
