En 1977, John Gianaras a acheté le L&F Corner Market et l'a transformé en un restaurant décontracté nommé Panos (en hommage à son père.) En 1988, les jeunes mariés John et Vi l'ont agrandi et réaménagé pour en faire un restaurant gréco-californien gastronomique. Ils ont géré le Panos avec un grand succès pendant 20 ans. Bond de 17 ans en avant... leurs filles Kristen et Kathryn ont repris les commandes. Désormais, le NOVY propose un menu simple et abordable et sert une cuisine californienne élaborée autant que possible avec des ingrédients frais, locaux et biologiques. Dans le but d'éviter tout déchet, il ne sert que des bières pression et du vin à la tireuse. The restaurant's menus feature Presidio-inspired seasonal craft cocktails, a progressive wine menu, and a cuisine that balances the comfort of familiar Mediterranean flavors with California sensibilities. In cohesion with the Presidio National Park, the design features soft, natural colors; repurposed furniture items from the Presidio; and a mural and a hand-drawn wall paper by Bay Area artist Emily Parkinson. Diners can enjoy a patio with a view of Alcatraz; an intimate private dining room; a lofty main dining room surrounded by windows on two sides; a cozy bar that is a local favorite; and an open-concept kitchen counter with counter seats and high tables.
