It all started back in 1923 in a small storefront in downtown Los Angeles. 95 years later and 5 generations later El Cholo has become synonymous with Mexican food all over Southern California.

Our Pasadena venue opened in 2000 and is at the Paseo Mall within walking distance of the Civic Auditorium and Convention Center, overlooking Colorado Blvd.
The menu consists of classics dating back to the original menu along with an array of more modern dishes showcasing the different regions of Mexico.

Four private rooms that can accommodate parties from 40-100 that allows our valued guest a memorable experience no matter the occasion.

Most famously known for our Margaritas and a menu featuring over 150 Tequilas. Both of our bars offer a comfortable environment allowing our guest to relax enjoy their experience.

The place is a shell of itself from before. No one at the front desk to take you to check you in. Barely anyone in the restaurant at all. The chili relleno was terrible, watery and barely any cheese in it. The enchilada part of my combo was cold. They forgot part of my friend's order. I think they're just living off of their name now. Not even trying to be a good Mexican restaurant anymore.

We waited an hour before our food came. Tables in the same room as us and that had arrived at the same time, were finishing there meal as we got ours. We asked multiple times to be waited on and were always told, be right there. If you are next to a convention center you should be aware of when large conferences are coming and plan accordlingly.

This review is for the service only. Everyone seemed frantic running around as if there weren't enough staff. Our surgery never touched our table outside of bringing my wine and check. I also asked for extra dressing that I never received. Of course, when it was time to pay she was the there in a jiffy. Food was okay but not a fan of cold chips!

Innovative menu items from over 100 years. Still family operated. Attentive service for a leisurely lunch. Consistently excellent. Patio can be fun and inside has simple ambience with historical pictures on the walls. I started enjoying El Cholo over 60 years ago as a USC student.

Food was pretty good, the ambience was beautiful. Had a good time celebrating Father’s Day with my dad here. I especially like how they had a mariachi to play for the customers, and my did loves mariachi!

Havent been to this El Cholo in years, and really enjoy the outdoor patio, even though it was a bit warm outside. The Mariachi band was fun, if a bit loud. The food was great though, really love the enchiladas and beans! Will be back

Great old institution Mexican restaurant convenient to Pasadena downtown. Great Magaritas, and classic Mexican, very generous portions and price great. Wish they'd get rid of the old carpet, and receptionist was a bit frazzled, but food, wait service was great- we'd go back again.

Mother's Day brunch was a horrible disappointment. How can you put food on trays without a heating element underneath them??? The food was BARELY warm at best! Is this a food safety violation? Usually food is labeled, which it was NOT. I politely made the server aware of the food being cold. He immediately asked me if I wanted to talk to a manager, rather than telling me he would let the kitchen staff know so that they could fix the problem. I asked one of the staffers at the buffet table why the food wasn't labeled. His response was that time was very tight. Again, it was Mother's Day and most decent restaurants were booked solid for most of the day. I consider myself to be very open-minded when it comes to food options and do not typically complain. In this case, had it not been a special day for my mother, I would have politely thanked the staff for their efforts and would have absolutely left the restaurant immediately. Our Mother's Day lunch was completely unsatisfactory, unfortunately for me and my family.
