I had not been here in probably 10 years. And the same for one of my dining companions. We were celebrating two birthdays and I wanted to go someplace that had a good reputation for good food and was kind of middle of the road as far as expensive. Our server, Fernando was cheerful and attentive, but not too nosy. We had a four choice charcuterie board, which was very plentiful for $20. We shared a bottle of wine which was $45. There were a lot of what I would consider more frugal price points on the wine list, which I thought appealed to a broad variety of wallets and palates. Two of us got one of the evening specials: Osso Bucco classically on risotto milanesa. Our other companion got the gnocchi à la vodka. Personally, I’m not a gnocchi fan, but I did try my companions, and they were fluffy, so I imagine for a gnocchi lover It was a delicious dish. The real star here was the Osso Bucco. It’s been a long time since I had it, and this was the place to re-introduce myself to it. The meal was tender. You could’ve used a spoon, but it still had texture. There was flavor from the cooking process and not too much sauce. They gave you a little fork in the marrow so you could eat everything, and let’s not forget about that beautiful saffron risotto. It was made lovingly where the rice was still al dente but the risotto as a whole was creamy and slightly loose the way it is supposed to be made. Without cream. Good rice, slow cooking in stock and a lot of love. My companions had birthday affogatos for dessert, it was a little disappointing that they did not have plain vanilla gelato. They opted for Oreo gelato, though I would’ve gone for the pistachio. The kitchen was nice enough to present their desserts on plates that said happy birthday with candles and we all sang. We did try a cannolo and to be fair, it was not even top five for me, I could’ve done without it. I do think the dessert list and dessert wine list could use a little modernizing and revamping.
