The idea of master chef Filippo Russo is to bring the Italian culture of gastronomy to Somerville, New Jersey. Through his philosophy, Da Filippo's Ristorante is recognized by European patrons spanning as far east as Japan and Singapore. With his profound knowledge in the culinary field Filippo Russo is able to present a level of authenticity through his dishes, replicating his mother's recipes as...well as the environment Filippo was exposed to in Sicily.

Over the years Da Filippo's Ristorante received numerous reviews from the New York Times, New Jersey Monthly Magazine and Zagat survey, The Star-Ledger and The American Academy of Restaurant and Hospitality Sciences. The most honorable recognition presentated to Filippo Russo is the Luigi Veronelli Award of Northern American fine Italian dining and Ignazio Miceli from Regaleali Winery Sicily. Wonderful from start to finish. When entering, we were greeted warmly by owner/chef Filippo's and his lovely wife, Berti. Felt at home the second we walked in the door. The place is spotlessly clean and well appointed. The staff was phenomenal, very attentive without hovering. The food -- absolutely delicious. The burrata just melted in your mouth. My mom had the tortellini which was decadent and I had the mahi-mahi which was cooked absolutely perfectly and delicious all the way through. Did not realize that it was BYO so suffered through without wine. But can't wait to go back with a nice bottle of red! Ordered the cannoli for dessert and then had the honor and privilege of having Filippo sit down at the piano and sing happy birthday to me and to a set of twins that were there as well. Then he graced us with a Beatles medley. Beautiful voice, wonderful piano player and I definitely think I like the song imagine much better in Italian! Make sure you get him to play for you!

Seedy exterior next to a vape shop. And a rough crowd outside turning a special evening into an uncomfortable beginning Music was programmed Godfather smaltz. Cute but on and on and on Food was not at all memorable, not bad but nothing to remember. And pricing was high enough to warrant better Was truly hoping to return again and again but not until they get it together Service was excellent and the servers deserve a better restaurant

I found this place on google and I had to try it as the reviews were fantastic and it did NOT disappoint. I LOVE that it was byob and had the old school Italian vibe. From the greeting of filippo’s wife, to filippo himself after our meal I loved. Brought me right back to my grandmother’s house on Sunday. The food was phenomenal and the fact I had to call to check if he would have linguini and clams on the menu goes to show how authentic and good that will be. Area is a little sus, and it’s kinda tucked away a little from the up the street bar noise, which I didn’t mind at all. I can’t wait to come back to try other times!

This was one of the most incredible experiences that we have had in a very long time. The ambience was beautiful, the food was absolutely divine and handmade by the chef who came out to explain every course as it was coming. The chef and his wife kept checking to make sure we were enjoying ourselves in the food. It was a beautiful experience and truly so special- the tasting menu is a must for everyone!

First time there and it was a great experience. Service was excellent. Family owned and both husband and wife were very attentive. The restaurant smelled like Italy as soon as you walked in. All the food was really delicious. Nothing was overly saucy. Ingredients were fresh and delicious. Bonus… the bread was homemade and phenomenal! Will Definitely go back.

The food is delicious! The owner also plays piano and sings- he's lovely. The service is excellent! The noise level can be challenging- to say the least. We had a 6:15 reservation. Although it wasn't totally full, the noise level made it difficult to have a conversation. By 8pm it had slowed down and it was not as bad. Also, the food is pricy. We were there a year or so ago and I don't remember it being that expensive. But- it is wonderful!! Definitely worth the visit!

Nice family owned and operated restaurant. Portions were a nice food and food was delicious! Owners were very kind and personable. Filippo (chef and owner) even sang and played the piano for some added entertainment. We can’t wait to go back!
