Ramen seems to be on everyone’s lips these days and Menya Kokoro in Singapore’s Plaza Singapura has just added to the conversation. But Menya Kokoro isn’t just any old ramen place. Founder Takuma Ishikawa’s vision of the perfect MazeSoba (mixing ramen) has won multiple awards in Menya Kokoro’s birthplace Japan, some voting it the best Mazesoba in Tokyo. Expanding into the world, now Singaporeans can enjoy the celebrated steaming bowls of goodness in Plaza Singapura on Orchard Road. But beware the highly addictive nature of Ramen. Once you’ve had a taste, you’ll come back for more.

The atmosphere at this affordable restaurant is colourful, casual and relaxed, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. As the first restaurant in Singapore dedicated to serving this iconic Japanese noodle dish, KAJIKEN is a popular spot, so reserving a table in advance is highly recommended.

Menya Kokoro in Singapore is a mazesoba restaurant that started in Japan. That means it focuses on soba noodles served mazesoba style - think ramen without the soup. There are a range of different mazesobas available, but each one is as delicious as the next. The noodles are accompanied by seaweed flakes, minced pork, green onion, bamboo shoots, braised chasu and more. If you want sides, there are gyozas and other options available. Located on Temasek Boulevard in Esplanade, the restaurant is minimally furnished with an authentic Japanese style. Menya Kokoro is popular and gets busy, so we recommend booking a table.

For lovers of Japanese cuisine, Singapore is a gold mine and Hakata Japanese Restaurant serves up some of Clementi’s finest. Located on West Coast Drive close to Clementi MRT station, the restaurant is a favourite for students at Singapore Polytechnic as well as residents of nearby Pandan Gardens. Hakata Japanese Restaurant’s menu boasts everything from freshly sliced sashimi to perfectly prepared sushi and other Japanese favourites from teppanyaki to tempura. We recommend going for the matsu gozen, a combination of sashimi, tempura, unagi, tako wasabi and chawanmushi in order to taste a wide variety of the delicious dishes on offer. With its cosy and intimate setting, Hakata Japanese Restaurant has limited space so book ahead to snag a seat!

Menya Kokoro 100AM in Singapore is the second location for the Menya Kokoro group, which you can find in Tanjong Pagar. The theme is the same, with Japanese mala mazesoba and (dry) ramen the focus. Choose between three levels of spiciness for your mala xiang guo or mala mazesoba. There are also side dishes unique to this Tras Street location. For those who need a broth with their noodles, there’s the furious mala ramen soup, which also comes in three levels of spiciness. The restaurant is clean, minimal and cool - all of which makes for one of Singapore’s best mazesoba experiences at Menya Kokoro.
