From literally Humble beginnings (when, in 1825, Mr Humble became the first registered resident of this address), this pub rose to become promoted in 1897 as ‘The Cornerstone of Fitzrovia – a proper pub with proper grub and a nice drop of ale’ and enjoyed the distinction of being the site of Karl Marx’s arrest for smashing a street lamp during a fight on Tottenham Court Road.If you're looking for a local in the heart of the city where you can escape the bustling streets and shoppers of London's Tottenham Court Road then look no further.
