Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles. We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect. Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. One of my favorite meals in the city. The beef chahan rice is phenomenal every time, the fish is always fresh, and you really can’t go wrong with anything here. 10/10 every time!!

One of the best dining experiences that I have ever had in any city I have visited. The food 12/10, but the service was 15/10. Our server, Ethan, was spectacular with attention to detail and additional investigation for our MSG allergy. Also note, they are willing to customize the dishes. I had Kimchi and fried chicken with double chicken and bok choy instead of kimchi. There are 4 of these restaurants in Chicago and between the four, they have over 11K reviews with 4.5+ stars- they have definitely earned it!

Service is always impeccable and quick. On this visit, we were provided a complimentary taste of an umeboshi digestif and a N/A Arnold Palmer-type digestif. That made this visit extra special. December special was especially delicious!
