Known across Singapore for almost 25 years as one of the most reliable and authentic places to fill on some Indian cuisine, Maharajah radiates quality. Both Maharajah restaurants – and certainly this one on Boat Quay – display some curious Indian artefacts and specialise in North Indian cuisine, meaning you can expect all of the Indian classics and – given Maharajah’s lengthy presence in the business – plenty of house specialities prepared using methods and recipes passed down through the generations. We’d be lying if we said this restaurant at Boat Quay wasn’t popular, so it’s wise to book ahead.

There are plenty of places to pick up an Indian meal in Singapore, from the upmarket white tablecloth places of the Downtown Core to the Little India enclave up on Racecourse Road. In Clarke Quay, RAS - The Essence of India tries to do something markedly different to the standard curry house fare. They offer a range of dishes that distinguish them from the norm, with a menu that takes in the whole of India rather than just one region, with lesser known specialities such as kachi mirchi, a curry cooked with green chillies and cashew nut and tandoori lobster, a Singapore seafood taste on the Indian repertoire. Take the train to Clarke Quay metro and wander over the Read Bridge towards the shopping centre, where you can find RAS - The Essence of India on the riverfront, waiting to welcome you in and take your order – just remember to book your table ahead of time.
