Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bredEast-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. With decades of experience behind him, ‘Pop’ founded Poppie’s. The shops are filled with retro memorabilia from Pop’s childhood, The uniforms channel a 1950s vibe, and the music is tailored to each shop. Dining in one of Pops restaurants is an experience with retro vibes and iconic looks from the decades. For instance, Seventies Formica and Anaglypta wallpaper will be just one of many pieces of kitsch decor on show.
Our inspiration is the Zeus Faber, one of many local fish that can be fished sustainably and from our shores; although it has a wonderful Latin come Greek name, it also has a very British name - John Dory. Faber is the Latin word for ‘Smith’ and as Smith is the most common name in English, we decided it sits well with our ethos - we want to be accessible to all.Setting us apart from the rest is our commitment to working with local fishmongers who run out to the coast each evening to collect day-boat fish and local ingredients. This means that everything on our menu is fresh, sustainably sourced, and supports the local economy. Our chef Ollie Bass believes in creating dishes that are not only delicious but also ethical and responsible.A perfect spot with Eventim Apollo, The Lyric & Riverside studios only 5-10 minutes walk, dine in with us to feel like you're at the coast in the heart of Hammersmith
Santo Mare is born from our idea of rediscovering and offering on our table in London the true Italian seafood cuisine and its tastes. For this reason, we sail every day through the Tyrrhenian Sea, with our fishing boats back in Italy, to catch the best quality food. We then ship daily the fruits of our efforts to London and provide our clients with the chance to live an authentic experience.Tradition, authenticity, quality and freshness are the commandments that we follow every day, with the aim of making Santo Mare thelandmark for seafood cuisine lovers in London.
