General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

Located right across from the Eaton's Centre on Yonge Street, just down the street from the Queen Subway Station, we're easy to find! Whether you're out shopping with your friends or you want to get away from the crowds of Yonge and Dundas, we are ready to be your perfect escape. Our two floors definitely get busy during concerts, UFC or sports nights, but there's always space to find a cozy nook with that special someone. A small apartment in the heart of Leslieville, one is welcome to come by with their dining partner/ partners (max 6 people) and as I walk you down a gastronomic tour of my culinary experiences, from learning how to make a simple bisque from my father in a minuscule kitchen in Calcutta, therein working at Michelin starred kitchen, Le Gavroche, London at a tender age etc. The evening dishes, approximately six courses, are mostly driven through the dogma of being aware of seasonality and produce and above all technical skills. Every menu is created the morning of the dining experience. Moreover for the curious of hearts, I would be cooking and baking dishes, right in front of you, giving you a true peek into the world of fine dining in top kitchens, somewhat akin to an omakase.All this is in an evening's worth of time spent leisurely drinking and eating delicious meal in great company and hopefully the best story to tell in the foreseeable future.Dietary restrictions kindly message me.

    The space is absolutely incredible. There is so much intentionality built in, and every last detail contributes to the 80's theme. I truly felt like i was transported when I walked through the front door. Expansive wine list with a bunch of accessibly priced options. Lots of local, but also lots of international gems. The food was all completely on point with very reasonable portions. Highlights were the bread service, popcorn mussels and clams, and the Sunday Roast dinner. Flawless service with just enough touch points. We will DEFINITELY be back to try more of the menu. Great job team, keep it up!

    Great time, went on Valentines so just like everywhere a bit extra chaotic, but that’s what makes it fun! Great service (hosts and servers) and delicious food. Will definitely be back!

    We had a fabulous time. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Our server CJ was attentive to our every need and always made sure we had a drink. Everyone was so friendly including the host, and the washrooms are private and clean. This is a great spot for happy hour in the city. We can’t wait to go back!
